What do you want to see in them?

Sprites should have at least two frames. They can be entered as a spritesheet or an animated .gif

Pixel art should be allowed if it has an animation.

Why animations?

I always do single sprites, I don't think everything should be animated (every once in the while, but not every time).

And I don't like this top 5 idea going on, at all.

The purpose of the Top 5 is to narrow down the entries. We aren't going to choose one person out of 20 different people.

I'd like to see an idea that isn't terrible.

Jazz' topic was the last decent one, and that got locked.

yes but the top 5 is decided by the old winner, which is an opinion by one person. The point of the competition is to get everyone's opinions, so if one persons opinions is its not top 5 worthy you already loose.

That fact is, even if they've been done before, the core Mario characters tend to go over fairly well in competition. I once started one with the theme as Yoshi, which was actually the third Yoshi comp, but there were dozens of entries anyway. Coming up with something obscure just because it hasn't been done isn't always the best approach. Sometimes, it's best to repeat a topic if it's one that would generate a lot of interest, such as a major character.

This. I also find some of the recent ones kinda bland.

A competition that can have a lot of originality, but you still need to stay in the guidelines of it.

I want to show you to look at my goomba sprites.

but we all know that isn't going to happen.
