It's that time again kids! ----------- IN THE MONTH THAT WAS OCTOBER 2008- Nintendo Community Fangame Convention 2008. It was fun. If you ignore the fact that out of the 75 registered booths only 54 managed to show up and even less provided anything playable, it was a great five days. Most of the magic went on in NCFC's IRC, with Yoshiman's collection of Earthbound tunes and my daily "You should play Mother 3" comments. Can't say much for the official IRC events since I could only make the request hours but from the sounds of things they were a tiny bit better off than last year. The event was hardly flawless but it wasn't too bad for its second run - there was a Q&A session of sorts, it just wasn't live, the tournaments sort-of happened but a lot of people didn't turn up, and though there were a lot of cancellations, there were quite a few fangaming gems. Also it's difficult not to compare it to SAGE, and that event's been around a decade. I had planned on giving all the Mario games a review but the Physics department of my school decided it would be fun to keep us behind to do coursework, so my motivation levels weren't too high. Blame simple harmonic motion and mechanical oscillators! - Speaking of Mother 3, the fan translation that was in the works for nearly two years got its first release. And what a great game Mother 3 is. "The Boney's Refreshing sensation faded" and similar comments were the only flaws that I could find translation wise. - IRC got some dedicated OPs. Nothing really happens in the IRC though as of yet, but the fact that it's now closer to home means we can afford to use it for other things. Suggestions welcome! - Risa Onda/Tragedy Anne stepped down from her global mod position. Thanks again to her for the work she has done. Though nobody has filled her place as of yet we've got Nicholas Ainsworth filling in as a new CCC Moderator (and no, not a gimped one - a full blown "I can ban" mod), and our Security Ninja Techokami has been given the all clear for mod powers. There might end up being some more mod shifts in the near future but after then there shouldn't be any for quite some time. - This is not worth 12 weeks suspension and 35000+ complaints (swear warning). - Apparently Barack Obama's going to win the American Election next month. Woo I suppose. - Halloween happened and the kids got fat - There's a WIP Kirby skin by Omega selectable. It's due for a re-vamp, colour wise. ----------- in other news GAME OF THE MONTH™: OCTOBER 2008I did a whole bunch of reviews earlier this month so this is more of a cop-out Game of the Month. But it's still good. October's Game of the Month™ is: Super Luigi and the Golden Shrooms, by Helloas recommended by Black Squirrel I shoot down Hello too much so I'm going to half make it up to him by giving his newest work a bit more love. Here's what I said about it about a week ago. It's the same old Hello game with the same old engine and the same old graphics, but I work on the main site. It's my JOB to look through Hello's endless supply of similar games. If you've not touched a Hello game before, well, this could be considered the second coming of Christ to you. So take it from that perspective. Yeah I'm being a bit lazy today but it's not too long until Christmas so I'm sure next month's will be a bit more worthwhile. ----------- Review Drive #13Though MarioFan222 and 0Daisy0 contributed to Review Drive #12, two reviews isn't really amazing overall. It could be argued that Mario Colors needs to be the subject of another Review Drive since two scores isn't really a great average. The game of the Month got more reviews. Three or four reviews generates a respectable score in my opinion, and if we're not getting that, the review drive probably isn't happening. Maybe the global financial crisis has effected your decision to use a car. I dunno. SO WE'RE GOING TO DO IT A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WAY (!!!) This is a list of all games without reviewsThere are 39. 39 is too many. Your job is to attempt to give all 39 of these games at least one decent review. Obviously throughout the month this list will be added to, but that won't be taken into consideration for when the results are displayed next month. It would be great to have half a dozen reviews for each, but the important thing is to get these games (some of which are from 2006) a score, because it's totally unfair on the creators if a game is ignored. ----------- Other things to think about: - IRC. Improvements? Uses? Anything? NCFC's chat was great and I'd love to be able to incorprate that formula in somehow.

In the form of a tempban. |
I've asked nicer. About ten times. My nice quota is up.
Although I do apologize for being rash, I am quite unhappy right now because: A) When I was a newb, I submitted some crappy stuff. B) They have all been requested for removal about half a year ago, and not one has been removed. C) I got a PM saying that the mods did not want to deny it because I submitted more than one request. D) I am a lot better at spriting and programming now, and I do not want to get stereotyped because I have crappy sprites/games in my submissions. E) I hate the fact that we can't just delete our games and are required to have mods look over our deletion requests when there are hundreds of submissions in the queue constantly. F) With the new mod changes, the queue has been emptied quite a few times to clean it out, and my submissions have been ignored.
While some of the information above my be inaccurate, I am simply not happy. Can you blame me for that?
Also, don't post "stop posting complaints because the mods can't fulfill your every need" just to be ignorant.

That's completely irrelevant. You might be aggravated, but that gives you absolutely no right to be lashing out at mods, admins, or any one for that matter.
Also, don't tell me how to do my job just to be an ingrate.

Hey, dude.
Check out my awesome minigames I did with Mario Gamer that are submitted on the site.
Now check out the following games:
Yoshi Gone MFGG Yoshi RPG: Secret Legends Paper Mario World
Those games I created (and Paper Mario World, is actually PMW: Gold, which is an "upgrade" of Paper Mario World, still just as stupid).
But I haven't requested those to be removed. They really show my advancement, and that's something to be proud of, to say "this is how I've improved!"

@RetroXYZ: Like DJ Yoshiman said, there's no point in hassling the mod's about deleting them. Who cares if your old stuff is crap? Nobody will care about the past if your stuff today isn't crap. Black Squirrel's (no offense) stuff, when I first looked at it, were of VERY basic quality. That's like what? 2005? But look now. He's made much better tilesets, but he still keeps his old ones for everyone to see. And I believe that's a really good comparison.
Let's see your reasons for wanting to remove them.....
A) When I was a noob..... Uhm, guess what? You aren't different. When all those "god" spriters you keep hearing about were, what you'd call, "noobs" (the term should be "newb"), they submitted pretty crappy stuff too. And you're special...how? B) They've been requested....removal.....not If you requested since half a year ago, and they still haven't been removed, it shows the Site Staff wants you to keep the work up there. C) PM....denied...more than one request If you submit too many requests for removal, than that's kinda considered spamming. D) Lot better at stuff.....don't wanna be sterotypical. How will you be classified as a stereotype? Stereotype what to be exact? You'll be a steroeotype in the sense that your work has improved over time. If by stereotype, you mean "noob", the get a grip. Stop judging yourself based on the past. The past has gone, so you focus on the present, and the near future. You can't really change the past so quit trying. E) Hate....why can't we do removal....instead of queue. There are actually many good reasons for this. 1) If a hacker gets into people's accounts, then they could just delete all of their submissions. 2) Site Staff moderate whatever goes in and out. This'll ensure that only good stuff stays in, and the bad stuff is thrown out. If the Site Staff feel your game should stay, then it should stay. 3) Suppose you accidentally click the delete button on a decent piece of work you have not duplicated. *Poof* Also, as of late, the queue hasn't been that full recently, has it? F) Submissions ignored by mods Submissions? You mean like request for removals? Or submission submissions? If it's request for removal, that's understandable.
Also, you post at the very end that the above information may be inaccurate? Then what's the point if your cries of anger ave been put on fire for no good reason? If you honestly have to justify yourself, at least provide true facts.
