This is starting to tick me off, seriously!
I'm tired of Hello's engine being edited over and over again and being
put on MFGG and being considered "original".
What happened to TGF2/MMF2? nope.gif

Game Maker is generally easier to use I think.

I use the classic version of Clickteam's "The Games Factory". And it hasn't failed me. smile.gif

Just wish it had a general "fade to black" though for a transtition. sad.gif

But Game Maker is so much better. It has nothing to do with overused engines.

I don't know, MMF2 is pretty simple to understand for me. Then again you realize MMF2 and TGF2 cost some big bucks.

Also, when searching for game creation tools, "Game maker" will probably catch their eyes first. It's also free.

I can't say which one is the best though because I haven't spent any time using Game Maker. And yeah i should of made some Indie game over a fangame had I knew how much hate clickteam has for them.

Quite simply, Clickteam costs money.

I've seen people come up with many reasons for their preference of Clickteam's products, but most of them are from a time when Clickteam was the only thing available. Now that people have a free alternative, Game Maker, we see alot less of Clickteam.

From what I have seen, Clickteam users generally tend to win arguments against the GM users. However, regardless of weather or not Clickteam is superior to GM, most people consider game making to be nothing more than a hobby, a little extra quality doesn't seem very worthwhile if it costs money. Not to someone who just makes games for fun, anyway.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't plan on using a pre-made engine for anything I make.

As said it's an issue of cost. It's not an issue of one program being vastly superior, or vastly easier to pick up and use. Amazing things can be leveraged in both. Ease of use has more to do with what you started with and what's familiar.

Both are great, but MMF2/TGF2 costs WAY too much money.

pretty much any fangaming community out there was "founded" on TGF and/or MMF

years ago

as in a lot of the "oldbie" fangamers lost interest in the hobby altogether over the intervening years

EDIT: also cost isn't an issue because i bet very few people on here actually own a legal copy of TGF/MMF

MMF2 is an absolutely stellar game developing tool, I just can't get over how it's programming works . I mean, it has everything that gamemaker doesn't, it supports built-in functions that make almost anything easier ... but it's programming language feels very very limited at times, mainly because some of the functions are completely alien to me (After years of using the "step" event, imagine how hard it is to have everything in one "step" event, calculated by actual time.) and some of the events seem utterly useless to me.

Then again, I've done some really cool things with it, I just prefer GM.

It's easier to use just because there are like 1.234.567 different engines available for it.

And for the record, yes, I do use Clickteam's tools. Mainly MMF2, sometimes Klik & Play.

I like ClickTeam's products far better than GM because they allow more flexibility. You can litterally make anything in those products, while in Game Maker you are pretty limited to loading screens and low fps.

1- $

Why? Game maker it's free if you don't want to have any super magical special effects, but it costs low, and MF does cost a lot and they have 30 day limit... well IMO.

2- MF is extremely confusing for me, and it does cost $$$$$

3- MF costs a lot.

But someday I might use it.

I beg to differ in terms of The Games Factory. Both versions are actually good if you know how to use the application right.

The key word is practice -- especially in regards to creating the Events List for each level.

TGF is basically MMF2 without some functions, and most importantly, extensions.

No, it's easier to use because it's easier to use. I tried using TGF once, and I couldn't figure anything out. Game Maker's drag and drop functions make it easier to use for beginners, but it still has a really good coding language for advanced users. I do agree that engines are a problem, though. MFGG should stop accepting games made with them unless they actually added new features.

Spritanium I think you're basing that on your own opinion because you use Game Maker. I'd say that MMF2 is far easier, but then again, I can't really compare to Game Maker as much as you can't compare to MMF2.

That's what a few people are doing. I have MMF2 and GM6.1. BOTH have advantages, and BOTH have Disadvantages. Which one you want to use depends on what kind of Game/Program you are making.
