But damn, it just KILLS a game when you have to turn ALL of the gfx down to min and still play at like 10fps.

Add a couple fps off from the online play, and you've got a seriously laggy game.

I've always had this problem. The only way I can play is if I lead a room and host the server locally.

I don't think you understand what the difficulties change. Certain types of zombies always have the same amount of HP on every difficulty. Your weapons always do the same amount of damage to zombies as they would on easy. Their damage to you changes, the chances of boss zombies increases, and the AI improves. There's some more changes, but I can't recall them at the moment.
