I just saw this today, in a little run-down theater in east seattle (I HAD TO DRIVE FROM WEST SEATTLE TO EAST SEATTLE WHOA) apparently it's only airing in a few theaters over here, and I don't know if it's even showing in other parts of america and europe, but let me tell you, this movie is ... whoa

You have no idea how hard it is for me to not spoil the ending when I explain the basis of the story, but those of you who've read the book will know what I'm talking about. When the movie reaches the climax, it hits you hard. The rest of the movie is boring, and I even found myself wanting to walk up and leave the theater, yet the ending seems to make up for it all, but not in the good way. This is a movie that sticks with you. You have to watch it all the way through to get it. Anyway, enough rambling about the ending, here's the basic layout of the story:

"The boy in the striped pajamas" is a story about a 8-year-old boy who grows up in holocaust-tastic germany. His dad, the token nazi of the story (Who somehow lives on without shooting himself) is the creator of the mustard gas chamber, and one of the leaders in the anti-jew movement. The story is told through the eyes of the kid (Who's name is Bruno) and his boring life living near a death camp, run by his father. Obviously, Bruno being a young kid, doesn't understand that the death camp is really a "death camp", and he finds himself one day running through the forest, in attempt to make friends with the local "farmers". The boy meets a kid named Shmuel, and starts making friends with him through an electric barb-wire fence, having no idea that he's a jew. The rest of the story is basically Bruno slowely finding out that his dad is in control of a death camp. The end has an ironic twist, that will make you cry, leave you breathless, and some other third thing.

Sad, emotional, and great movie. I recommend it, even if it is a bit boring. Movies about Nazi Germany always fascinate me.

Nazis :>

I like these kind of movies too. If I happen to find a torrent of it, I'll download it and watch it just because Razz said so.
