The only people I know that play sports are a serious rugby guy and three or four lesbians who play football.

**America only

only like 1/15 guys play sports here

That's why the bottom of my post said "but that's America for you". Yes, I do live in Japan, but I go to to an American-styled school, or whatever you'd call it, and they're just the same as back in Alaska =.=

Now, you see, when a guy takes on this sort of lifestyle -- independent from his fellow males, devoting himself to studies and personal interests -- it's called a sort of valour.

Oh, hey, problem.

Not true.

Not always, anyway. I actually have no clue what you're talking about there, since I don't go out or hang around with people very often, and it's never been seen as positive.

social conditioning, pretty much

what with the media's interpretation of what girls should do and their role and that ****

much of it is is that because females are still cast in supporting roles; they're still considered emotional support or some **** like that

you grow up surrounded by stuff that casts your gender to be some social flirty machine, no matter what feminism has done or is around you, subconsciously you begin to adjust to it

but when i gave it more thought - perhaps it is simply gender differences?

notice that there are more girls that confirm to some sort of 'scene' - and their music taste becomes another fashion accessory that just contributes to their general appearance and **** - while men, i find, are more likely to listen to music because they honestly like it and not because it helps them fit in or whatever

but then again, i know plenty of people that are the opposite of the above, so idk

perhaps a combination of subconscious social conditioning and just gender differences ???

Also, it's different for each gender. An unsociable girl is about as odd as a boy who doesn't play a sport.

Haha what

The majority of guys here aren't in any sport at all

Even though I spend most of my time on the net, I still go to movie theaters or parties whenever I'm invited.

I also hate how my dad claims that I'm getting "too old" for video games.

Yeah, I've noticed this, and it angers me to no end.

My friend who's a girl is by far one of the nicest person I've ever met; yet girls constantly give her **** behind her back because she "doesn't keep up with the trends", or "is ugly". It makes me so angry, she's nice the way she is, why should she try to be something she's not?

Oh, hey, I know someone like that too.

And I feel the same as you about it.

Yeah, this must be annoying for girls. But guys have things like this too. For one, it's not normal for us to cry or have happy physical contact with other guys. Girls can make out and people will just think "OH SEXY!" and a guy will hug another guy when he's happy and people will think he's weird.

I swear to god I woke up one morning a few years ago and I was told by my mom that my grandpa died. I burst into tears just when I heard that. When I got to my class I was talking to a girl and she asked me why my eyes were so red. I said "I was crying, my grandpa died." She said "A little emotional aren't you?"

This. What a god-damn idiot she was/is.

Sorry to hear that.

This topic makes me think: sexism will never really disappear, will it? We'll have laws and rights for women and what not, but they'll still be gender roles and expectations of the opposite sex...

It isn't as easy as saying "Everyone is equal, no more sexism"...

...What a jerk!

But yeah I don't see why people get so fussed up about 'loner'ism when it's perfectly fine to some degree and not being a social/party monster makes you a freak to people who ARE party monsters.

Self-involvement helps you get in touch with yourself. Too much social exposure often turns you into a symbiotic part of a group of people where individualism isn't valued at all and all that matters is that you all do the damn same things (drink, party-go, flirt).

BOOOOREfest I say. I enjoy my individualism. I hate people who look down on more self-involved people because they don't 'go with the flow' (ugh I hate that I don't even know why I used it). And people who just are not strong willed enough that they give in to peer pressure on the first try are an even worse cause of loss of individualism.

Of course I'm not implying that social activity is bad but if you choose to be a bit more independent that's okay too and people should not disrespect you for it.

...Sigh, people suck
