Alrightie, new guy here, observed the place, and hopefully this is the right place to ask these questions!

So i'm currently working on a Mario fangame right now in multimedia fusion 2, and i'm stuck on two problems - variable jump, and a button dependant run. Since i'm just trying to make a fully functioning Mario right now, it's really only a test.

What i want to happen(without having to learn and use a static or entirely new engine, as i'm just using the default for now) is for the longer you hold button 1(for jump), the higher Mario jumps. Yeah, pretty basic... but i'm a novice, so i really can't figure it out.

For the second problem, i wanted a basic walking speed as long as you hold left or right. But holding down button two(which i plan to use for various other things throughout the game) while walking will gradually increase Mario's speed, until he takes off into a run, and releasing the button decelerates him, of course.

Those are the only two things i can't seem to figure out - so far, i've got(for a basic Mario) a wall jump and a fully functioning slide, and know howto do a ground pound... but those two basics far outwiegh the theatrics. headslap.gif

Any help would be greatly appreciated! As for screenshots on... well, the test demo:

Looks good. For Variable Jump, check if the Jump Button was released, and if it was AND he is going upwards, divide the Jumping Speed by 2.

Not directly related to your questions, but if Mario's supposed to be touching the hill while sliding in your second screenshot, I suggest that you alter his collision mask (or whatever name is used for it in MMF2) so that his sprite is actually sitting on the hill.

Hah, well thanks man - i'm so far from finished, but hopefully soon i can crank something playable out. nod.gif

@Grant: I'll have to check to see if he always flies off the ground, or if that was just a one time thing...be pretty damn odd otherwise.

@Retro: Why thank you sir! Now, mind directing the new guy to it? I'd hate to think you're one of those types of posters whose only intention is to attempt to be big, bold, brash, and eventually scare the new people from asking questions for fear it's in the wrong forum. wink.gif

@OniLink: I... don't know what you mean. I get the "Check to see if the jump button was released" part(negating "Repeat while fire 1 is pressed"), just not any of the rest of it...

should just be in the main FD forum, not the MD subforum

also i really would recommend thinking about ditching the default platform movement ASAP and using the PMO at least, since i'm pretty sure the built-in platform movement won't even tolerate hacking what you want into it

Ok. Here's what you do.
1: Condition 1 is to check if Jump Button was Released
2: Condition 2 is to check if Mario is not falling or standing
3: The Action that is taken if both of these Conditions are true, is to take Mario's Vertical Speed and divide it by 2.
