I'm pretty sure this belongs here, as I'm discussing a fangame

Also, I can't use OGGs; they're too complicated. The whole supersound.dll thing didn't work for me, so don't even suggest it.

You could use MP3s with a low bitrate, which have a litle lower quality and take up less space, but I dunno how that'd affect loading times.

And then you could have MIDIs with an extreme amount of work put into them.

I say it depends on the game you're making. If it has simplistic graphics and such, use MIDIs

Exactly how is supersound not working for you? Is it too hard, glitching out, ect?

I think BASS.DLL supports .ogg's, if you're looking for alternatives (And assuming you're using game maker)

I don't like the idea of having a complicated system just to shave off a megabyte or two. That's why I gave you two options and specifically asked for nobody to recommend OGGs. Thank you for offering to help, but I'm really not interested.

MP3 with a 56Kb/s Bit Rate. That's what MKFusion uses.

Well, that's the difference between someone downloading your fangame or not. OGG's are going to massively allow you to have good quality sound at a really low filesize. It's best to have a complicated system to shave off a megabyte or two for every single song, because it all adds up in the end and turns your fangame from a 50 MB nightmare to a 20 MB quality-sound awesome fangame.


Because your other choice is to use mp3's, and by the time you get them to a small filesize that equals an ogg's, it's going to have such crap quality that it's not even worth it to have them and you might as well go with MIDI's in that case.


I honestly think it's worth it to attempt working with this supersound dll you spoke of or find an alternative to get OGG's working somehow, even though I know you aren't fond of said option.



Otherwise... I guess if you're still going to be stubborn enough, then given the choice between the two, I'd say MIDI.

MP3s don't load properly on game maker.

SPCs are also an option. And MIDIs work, when they're chosen well.
