I got a PS3 + HDTV, VERY impressive.

I had no idea the different, to be honest. I've had a Wii for a year or so and frankly, everything about the Wii seems entirely outdated when compared to the PS3. I'm very impressed with how well everything just works perfectly in such a well thought out manner. I mean, even the menu just feels so better thought out and streamlined... aaa.

Anyone else have similar sentiments involving HD?

have you tried running Fedora on it with the "Other OS" feature?

iirc, the PS3 menu is similiar to that of the PSP, right? I really dig the PSP's menu, it's really sleek and organized

yea. it's pretty gay that nintendo wants to stamp out any homebrew efforts on the wii because at this time that's crucial to running wii-linux on it

however I don't like that the ps3 has a hypervisor for Other OS; it severely dampens the hardware performance down to roughly that of a pentium 3 for most ordinary tasks.

that's truly a shame. for all intents and purposes, the PS3 OS is just great, really. fluid, smooth, easy to use... really appreciate it. the PSN store is pretty amazing as well... tons of demoes for almost all the games I wanted to play, HD trailers to download, cool new themes to nab and customize PS3... overall my experience has been great

upscaled wii games and DVDs are not so hot.

When I used my Wii on my HD monitor/TV for the first time, I was like "hmm, it smoothes it a bit more, that looks cool."


I became disappointed in the Wii and smiling brightly at my 360 when I plugged it into my HD monitor/TV.

Hell, i even like the wii and i can without flinching say it's ridiculous how subpar the graphics are.

The Wii has horrid graphics, not in terms of the triangles and crap but the fact that they are just SO GODDAMN UGLY ON MY 50'IN PLASMA TV.

I ... didn't have a ps1 or ps2 so I've pretty much used my ps3 mostly for playing games I've missed out on. The only ps3 game I've played/own is Metal Gear Solid 4 and that was pretty nice to look at though; hell, even the menus are all nice and sexy in HDMI on the ps3 :S

HD does look a lot nicer and all, but I don't mind any last gen graphics or anything. I actually still play my ps2. But I have to admit nothing really compares once you've played some HD games.

Your PS3 can play PS2 games? Mine only plays PS1 games, I guess I have a different model or something

I have the 60 gig one, I hear the newest models don't have any backwards compatibility at all, or something? It's crashed on Shadow of the Colossus a few times randomly, and it would always freezes at a certain part in the ghost ship in Chrono Cross but aside from that it runs fine. One thing that bugs me about HD games is that the text is ridiculously small, it's impossible for me to make out things from the Solid Eye in MGS4 since the icons and whatever are tiny. Yeah, it's super clear, but it's SMALL DAMN IT :S

Oh that freaking sucks for me then, well I still got my PS2 so that's fine. But what I find odd is that it can play PS1 games but not PS2.

Also playing split screen on an HD TV is a lot better since you can see your portion of the screen easier, especially for shooting games. Although I guess this would work with any big TV. But also small sprites look incredibly pixelated on big TV's which kinda sucks, but you can change the portion of the screen it uses I guess.

the PS1 is pure software emulation, the PS2 used the Emotion Engine chip, which was removed due to costs.

Hey guys Turbografx16/PC-Engine has far superior graphics to the NES so it is logically the far superior system, amirite?

...You can say you're happy with your 360/PS3 without using this topic as another place for you to rant about Wii/Nintendo.

Graphics aren't everything, though I do love the eye candy HD 360 presents.

Been wanting a ps3 a lot lately.
With all these games that I really want for it as well as the fact that the Wii is taking a nosedive lately, it's just making sense to get one.
Now all I need is 570 dollars.
