QUOTE (Mrs. Aforcer @ Nov 26 2008, 01:31 AM)
College isn't mandatory, last I checked. I thought secondary schooling (high school, in America) was the last mandatory level of education you needed? And that usually lasts up until age 17-19 (depending on when you started school or if you skipped).

What I mean is mandatory schooling is currently only up to 16. Hence college starts at 16 and is completely optional.

However I think they're changing it soon so that mandatory schooling goes up to 18.

...I realise my post was worded badly. :(

Unless the decide to become entrepreneurs or have a knack for predicting currency trends.

Also, with digitalization of jobs, the next generation should have heaps more leeway in time due to the less restrictive environment for work

Let's prepare kids for the unlikely yet conveniently positive situations in the future so when they encounter the negative, more likely circumstances, they'll feel miffed, confused, and probably fail.

GOOD IDEA YEA

S'fine. I understand now.

And then don't you have, like... university or something after two years of college?

your parents know best

my mother says that drinking more than a cup of orange juice a day gives you diabetes
my mother says that these herbal supplements labeled 'not actually proven to cure anything at all' are an universal panacea
my mother tells me that everyone not chinese have stupid genes, and that i should marry at the age of 40
my mother tells me that drinking soup before eating dinner makes you lose weight
my mother tells me that being in the cold will give me pneumonia

no sir, i'll have to disagree with you on that

and while my biological clock is pretty much ****ed up, i certainly don't expect the world to follow it as well. yeah, i know that i should probably get more sleep, oh well

also, @aforcer: college and university mean 2 different things in the UK, while they're pretty much the same thing here in the states

Since parental power abuse has been brought up I'd like to state that although I agree that parents provide food and shelter and basic living needs and shold be treated with respect, if they are drunks, abusive, negelectful, or any combination of the three there is room to question their athourity.

I mean, parents have the right to do whatever they want to bring up thir kids, but not when their neglecting their duties as parents.

I personally havnen't had many parental issues but if there is abuse or flat out neglect going on I do think there's a little room to fight the power.

I sort of agree with this, but you know what? God created us and some don't even know he exists. So yeah, talk about neglec and disrespect.

And no, I'm not a priest or anything. And no, I don't know if God exists or not. And no, I don't-- ah, who am I kidding? In reality, I'm the goddamn Pope >:[ Do you know how hard it is to manage the entire goddamn world? HARD.

um... if you say that god created us all, then the implication is that you believe in one

It was more of an "automated response" than a "well-thought response".

If you want to know, I do believe in a higher power. Maybe God, maybe thousands of them. But yeah.
