The weirdest my parents get about me being on the internet is that sometimes my dad will come in and read the statuses of my friends on facebook out loud, chuckling occasionally. He does this for about a minute or so, then leaves.
It's a lot more creepy than it sounds.

That really sucks...

I know a woman who's an extremely overprotective mother. A couple of her kids used to go to my friend's message boards (I also know them in real life). Now they don't go there anymore, apparently because the dumb old ***** won't let them on (even though it's MUCH more innocent than most community sites on the Internet). Apparently had something to do with a mass PM incident that involved the word "ass."

More recently I had to scrap a plan, which I rather liked, of creating a website for a certain club that my siblings and one of her kids are in, mostly because this same overprotective goof was paranoid about her kid's safety on account of not knowing jack **** about the Internet, and put her foot down, making it clear (though at least not explicitly) that she didn't trust my judgment about Internet safety. (The site would have revealed nothing of any value to troublesome outsiders about the club's members.) I'm still rather pissed off about that incident.

So yeah, overprotectiveness can be very irritating.

I'm not trying to be an ass about your parents, though, Flametale; I'm just speaking generally. (Plus there's a chance that the woman I'm talking about is even more "extreme" anyway.)

And how old were the kids?

I think that at the time they were around 16 and 14.

Now the one who's in the club my brothers are in is about 16.


EDIT: And I should have mentioned that it was a pretty big deal that they weren't allowed to visit my friend's message board anymore. The place never had all that many members, and forum activity took a huge hit with them gone (especially since one of the highest posters was friends with one of the two).

Basically what you have to do is be more open with them, and they'll be less curious. It'll all balance out.

But it's strange. All this pedophile and internet stalker stuff like never happens anymore, right? And yet parents are still worried?

Isn't that the point of the game. I bet with a mom like that, he can't even watch a very old cartoon with mickey mouse that has guns in it.

Also my parents don't care much at all. But they kinda keep a very slightly somewhat close eye on me. And don't want me looking at porn.
