Black Mesa, Half Life 2 mod thats looking amazing

Now, I had heard about this mod awhile ago on ModDB, the team planned to recreate ALL of Half Life 1, with every single level designed the same, every single encounter and enemy in the same position with the same AI, and every single texture and model redone to the HL2 EP2 engine's standards. Now, my first thought, as I'm sure alot of people thought, was "Yeah right".

But after ignoring the mod for awhile, they come out with this trailer! Watch the whole thing and be amazed.

How many times have you seen that in a story mode based mod?

So thats it, just wanted to bring everyone's attention to this incredible mod, because I think that nothing helps developers finish those last stretches of a game like alot of hype.

Oh and did I mention it has multiplayer?

If it were a retail game.

But this is a team of home developers working for no money, and I'd say its pretty damn good for what they have.

Plus I'm a nostalgia-*** so things like this make me hype like crazy.

no, I mean those were my feelings when I played Half-Life for the first time. I get bored of it oh so quickly every time I try to play it.

I think the HL series is great as an FPS but the gameplay is constantly brought to a screeching halt because valve wants to show off their PHYSICS ENGINE


Yes, puzzles are great and all, physics based puzzles are even better


But I think FPS and Puzzle are just two genres that.. don't mix

I bought the original for 98 cents or whatever it was
and it's a total blast, I still have to beat it but I'll definitely check this mod out once it's finished

Did the original Half-Life even have Physics puzzles? I thought Physics was something new they introduced with Source.

No it didn't, but there is Half Life Source, which had the same old graphics with source physics and some more realistic bullet physics I think.

Thats why this should be amazing. Take source graphics AND physics, get rid of the boring physics puzzles, and you've something that may end up being more enjoyable than the original Half Life.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least, they did some great and creative design of the entire facility, I'm sure they'd make great level creators or artists. Lets just hope Valve sees this mod (hard to miss it) and adds it as one of their hosted mods on steam, THEN it'll get really well known.

It is looking retail quality... But that would be kind of against the way the developers act on the forums.

Also something really cool that the developers have done, they hold contests on the forum for small things that they use as game content. They had a contest for framed pictures that would be put up in offices around the facility. They also did one for people to create small models that would spawn randomly when crates are broken, this way there is alot more variety than the team could ever create alone. (other examples: skin a computer screen, skin vending machine food, etc.)

Yeah which made the puzzles in HL1 even worse

I've known about this for a while, but it just keeps looking better every time I see it.

What really blew my mind was how cinematic some of the things in that trailer were, like when the scientist got yanked out of the window, thats better than some of the stuff in HL2.

Normally with HL2 mods we see online games with newly modeled weapons and levels, or short single player games with levels whose textures are basically copy pasted from HL2.

But these guys made ALL of the textures and levels custom, and in 2 years! Amazing...

Yeah I've been looking at this mod for a while, an it is really amazing. But I am seriously doubting this being released earlier than within 2 years.

I didn't think it was a mod, I thought it was an official remake made by Valve.

Just shows how good it is if I can't tell it's unofficial.

What would be more entertaining would be running around a perfectly fine Black Mesa with various weapons, beating up scientists for no good reason, and after a while they start sending in the millitary and stuff.

Though I suppose they could also add "grand" and "theft" to the beginning too.

on a serious note, this looks pretty, but from the sounds of things it's been in the works for years so far and the screenshots look the same, so I can't imagine it'll be released any time soon.

I think it'd suffice to say "****ing WANT."
