so my dad nearly choked to death

I was kinda sitting with him talking, when he coughs. That's cool, we all cough. Then he keep doing it, and doing it and doing it until he his head was pretty red, and his stomach was trying to throw up. I was standing beside him **** scared with no idea what the hell to do. In the end, the coughs up this slime thing and then throws up. I am still kinda thrown off by the incident. But yeah he smokes on occasions, mind you, not a heavy smoker, and this've always been my greatest fear. Makes me wish he'd kinda just die already when I'm not around so I won't be getting more of those shocks.

I was able to stop many people I know from smoking...

No, but if I had I wouldn't wish for them to pass away when I'm not around. That's even more depressing than not being there with them.

persistent coughing is not a sign that someone is choking to death. A rasping wheeze or other sound that indicates a tracheal blockage would mean choking.

Nonetheless, encourage him to look into smokeless cigarettes or e-cigarettes. Still delivers nicotine to his system but with the carcinogens or the lung damaging smoke.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to see your parents choking to death nearby where you are unable to do anything

Actually I'd hate to not be around someone when they die, I'd just cry more. But it hurts to watch someone you love die....

Actually, I remember seeing my mom choke on a fish bone when I was 8. I gave her some water, and my dad gave her a piece of bread swallow in order to push the down.

When I was making the point about not being by someone's side, I was talking about my grandmother. I never saw her at all during my life and she died not being able to meet her grandchild.

Actually, when you cough, that is not choking. It to good to cough, because shows that air is still able to be moved through your windpipes.

Choking is when you can't cough.
