How to Earn Respect in MFGG

Here's how this Thread Works:

So everyone, help give Newbies advice so we can help gain "good" MFGGers!

Eh, this topic doesn't serve much purpose as there are loads of way to define "respect", and usually it is accomplished by doing something for another member.

Yeah, it's more of a "Give Advice to Newbies so they don't turn bad like some people did" Thread. >_>

All you need to know

Learn to spell correctly.

No chatspeak, this is a forum, not a mobile phone.

Take criticism, don't whine about it.

+ Use proper grammar and spelling (or at least try to).
+ Contribute to the community by making games, playing games, making sprites, making music, writing tutorials or other things
+ Read the rules and obey them as far as possible
+ And everything that's in the rules.

One simple rule with me.

Don't be a bloody moron or I'll hate ya.

this is how to not get banned
even though most stuff could make you lose lots of respect (trolling, flaming, stealing)

-join comptetions on occasion
-be active but don't post like a maniac.
-Be friendly
-critique and comment on artwork, sprites, and games.
-DON'T go around saying "oh this sux lol!" First, say that in english, second, if you have a problem with something, tell why in a bit of a gentle fashion.
-Read the rules. (should have been at the top of my list)

Are you guys serious? Really?

This is a forum that is free to anyone and MechaBowser is 100% correct. All that you need to know and understand is the board rules and that is it.

When there is nothing stated in the rules about these "respect earners", you cannot nor should you, in the first place, expect this of anyone. People posting "advice" here are scared and afraid of change and the future and are very weakly disguising it as some kind of thing "help" new members. I can smell the bull**** through my tower case.

Afraid of change and the future? I wouldn't say so, that's a bold statement the way it's worded! People have all the right to act how they wish as long as it doesn't get them banned, but heck, I think you'd agree with me in saying you don't want rude members trying to shove their way all over the place!

I can't really give advice, seeing as I'm clueless when it comes to specifying it, but in my mind it's common courtesy. The internet has people who are still the same as in real life personality wise; you can't go thinking words still can't hurt us.

actually the one about chat speak is spot on.

Besides, respect means absolutely nothing on MFGG. One day, people will worship the ground you walk on and treat you like you can tread water. The next, they're calling you a ****** and leading a baseless smear campaign against you.

I thought you guys knew this by now.

1. speak english
2. don't just post one thing all the time, it gets annoying and in most cases, it was annoying the first time
3. lurk before you leap
4. don't whine when something doesn't go your way

Like I said, this is a *free* internet forum which means that people are *free* to post and I am *free* to NOT read and to NOT take anything to heart.

That's completely true. Sadly the internet has been prone to over reactions, everybody's gone through them at some point or another and it can often backfire and cause some big problems. Like I said below my first paragraph of that post, people take the internet and its words to heart just as easily as real life if they open themselves enough to it, and if we're not careful, we may just be handing ourselves a knife to the back if we upset those guys.

That is not to say the citizens of internet-dom aren't mature to ignore such things either, but once again as in reality, the internet is full of different kinds of people, and their reactions to the same scenarios are almost guaranteed to be different for each person.

And this topic's purpose must be to let people in on what can prevent such fires. I cannot say that everybody must follow every member's tips to the letter, cause that will please some and possibly upset others, but instead to find their own balance.
