So I'm working on this Paper Mario fangame titled Paper Mario: Dungeon Tale.

Click HERE to watch a gameplay video.

This game features:
  • RPG-like Gameplay (EXP, HP, and ATTACK stats)
  • NPCs that you can talk to.
  • Navi, a helpful guide. Similar to Goombella in PM:TTYD, or Tippi in SPM
  • Enemies
  • Several dungeons, towns, and other areas of interest to explore
  • Currency
  • Special moves/items
  • ...and much more!
I'm sort of making up the story as I go, but all I can tell you is that it's set in the Mushroom Kingdom, in a time of fear and despair, and you must save it!

Keep in mind that I'm still developing this game, so the graphics may look bad.

You can ring up damage on enemies by stomping them.

wow clash

try making tiles and backgrounds that go along with the sprites. plain colors look bad, and the clash is very bad.

Love the style of the sprites it'll look great if you make the tiles and bg in the same style.

the mario sprite looks good, but other than that I can't really comment on anything else unless I played it. I don't really need to mention the hud/font changes since you already said you were doing a graphical change.

I only suggest more stats. Also, maybe a combo system. After the enemy is defeated, maybe have a counter that shows the max amount of damage you dealt to it.

I understand that you'll save graphics for later and will change them. But if you're not planning on it, do you think you could show health in numerical values as well as the bar? I like to see exactly how much health I have so I can predict how many more hits I can take, more accurately.

This looks like it'll turn out to be quite a fun game. Can't wait to see more about it, and to play it.

If you're looking to be confused, make word filters changing all vowels to a certain letter (I suggest to a vowel), all for read-only, and loose. For example, with all vowels turned to "i"...

The sprites are cute, but they clash horribly with the platforms, and we could do with a bit more background detail (is that giant pixelated black thing in the last screenshot supposed to be a door?).

The engine and graphics need overall a lot of work. Like Mario's feet should not be moving in mid-air as is he was walking. I suggest you polish what you have right now before you make new things.

I'd personally do nothing to the gfx, they way you presented the crappy MSpaint quickies doesn't compare to the antics they give by simply being themselves. The giant goomba ball and the corrupted mushroom guy in the video really won it for me.

The game is sure to turn out, awesome!

If you made him, and he's a first boss..Then I'd hope you'd be able to beat him blindfolded. I imagine if you have trouble, then that doubles with everyone else playing it. I'd say save difficult bosses for later. Then again I guess it depends on how many stages you have to beat to reach the 1st boss.
