MFGG, what specific things make a girl "girlier" than a boy? I'm not just talking about physical things (breasts, hips, etc.), of their generally "girly" emotions or attitudes (upbeat, cute, etc.); I'm talking about specific tangible/visible/measurable variables, including (but not limited to):
  • Colours/prints of garments
  • Clothing style/cut
  • Accessories
  • Shoes
Basically, the things Mum and Dad told you not to judge people on alone -- the "cover" of the "book." More specifically, clothing/accessories in general. Shallow, I know, but I'm curious -- does anyone actually know in precise, descriptive detail what makes (for example) a "girl" shirt/jacket/etc. different from a boy shirt/jacket/etc.

Why do I ask? I need to figure out how exactly to go about looking "girlier," and I just can't seem to get it right no matter how hard I try. I don't want to go too out of my way -- I don't really have time for make-up or money for a lot of new clothes, not to mention my hair's not exactly malleable or full of variety -- but I'd like to try... a little.

God, this feels like a really pathetic request, too... humour me a bit, my friends.

I do not think colours/accessories/whatevs mean you are girly and I find that offensive >:|

edit: I don't really think you should bother to even try and be "girly"; That's stupid and you'd just seem fake.

There's really no point to it and being a stereotype just to fit in isn't.. cool

I'm not trying to fit a stereotype, I'd just like to find ways to make my wardrobe a little less blatantly masculine.

I'm not going out and buying mass amounts of make-up, talking in a shrill, annoying voice, and clip-clopping around like a horse in high heels, though.

I just wanna tweak some things -- no real dramatic changes to my character, though.

I think you're fine, and if Meda likes it, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

But then Meda told me some things about your mom... And I can see how her wanting you to change could be a bother if she constantly annoys you about it or something like that. And don't wear those flat slip on shoes. IMHO they are really ugly.

They give me blisters, too; I had a pair, I wore them for half a day, and couldn't stand them a minute longer.

Just to name a few, girly bags tend to be smaller and more colourful while boy bags are larger and have dull colours on them, but they both have hugeass corporate logos...

Jesus, I have no idea. I'd have thought I'd know this stuff better, what with me having a tomboy as a friend to contrast things against but to be honest I don't know.

(I wonder how this ties in with the concepts of what 'womanly' ness really is. Some people think for example dresses are for sissies and that pants are the only way to be a respected female while others think that you can wear a skirt and that's the only way to be womanly.)

(I hope you don't mind having bad answers.)

Don't try to force yourself to be slightly feminine if that's what you mean.

If you don't want to, then don't.

If I had to suggest, maybe get some clothing with brighter colors.

EDIT: Or some Hello Kitty things, if available in your area. Hello Kitty items often look girly. At least from what I've seen.

Hahaha, my best bud seems to suffer from this as well, Mrs. A. I think you know the cliche'd fashion sense for the 'feminine' kind, but not like it matters. If you're trying to kill yourself over fashion in order to 'fit in' with society better on a gender-typical scale, but that's no fun at all, ain't it? :P Just be yourself and where what you want to.

(In relation to my BFF, she often claims how she feels too masculine from hanging around guys all the time. *Her tomboy attitude doesn't help when she starts going off in rebellions against things I often get dragged into* We shrug it off.)

I tend not to even think about it, or care. EDIT: Not to just reply to this thread with "LOL WHO CARES?", I mean I don't care about how "girly" a girl is compared to guys.

Your feminine adaptations are usually learned through observation, television, growing up as a kid, etc.

But if not through those means then just go visit a designer outlet, or even a WALMART for that matter. Professionals get paid to put together a wardrobe that suits you, and lots of research and creative energy go into throwing together a unique feminine identity that's so flexible, it can work for anyone. So I would suggest that your starting point would be just to go out and look at whats on the shelves these days and maybe ask around for a professional opinion.
