You can't force people to ditch GM, so please don't start a crusade against it. Ok, so the reason people use Game Maker is because of the name gives it high google ranking, but C++ is hardly the most user friendly of starts to game design, and you'll need knowledge of many advanced concepts of loops that are handled in the background by GM.

tbh I'd rather have people stay with Game Maker as it seems to deliver many more games than C++ has done (= 0).

I'm having a C++ course next semester. Then I will start game making in C++.
I agree with you that C++ is probably a better choice if one takes programming seriously, however I dislike your attitude which basically says "If you don't use C++ you suck compared to myself."

It does? I apologize, I don't mean to sound like that, my progression that I posted in the first post was to tease people into wanting to try and advance quicker. I don't mean to sound like that.

I'm not trying to force anyone to switch, I'm trying to convince people to switch.

Yes but you see C++ is the more complicated language therefore it is superior!

C++ is too advanced for me, and that's coming from someone fluent in GML.

from what i've seen, C++'s syntax looks like someone said "oh **** we haven't used this symbol yet, let's put it somewhere random and use it like once or twice"

I'm sticking with Game Maker 7 Pro for now, because there is a lot I don't know in GML.

I'm like 100% versed in GML, there are few things I can't do with it (mainly because its python with a few changes)

So yeah, GML people, you might also look into going into some of the Python/C++ game development engines such as Ogre 3D: http://www.ogre3d.org/

yeah... I would use C++, but...

I DON'T KNOW GML. OR EVEN D&D. So really, I don't think a transition to C++ would help me at all. It would probably just make things harder.

Please note that I'm a slow learner, fast forgetter, so I don't think that would help me with C++, Let alone GML.

The same kind of thing is with ActionScript 1.0 -> 2.0 and 3.
1.0 was the most basic thing you'll ever see, and when in 2004(?) 2.0 was available, you thought "Hey, I know 1.0, maybe I'll go for 2.0" and with a simple learning you were lots of times better.
Then came AS3, and you thought the same thing, and once you learned that completely, you were an excellent programmer.

This is probably out of the subject in general, but Flash used to be a simple animation tool, but now has incredible powers when it comes to, you know, anything. You can create games, animation, all kinds of multimedia content with practically any kinds of plug-ins, it's cross-platform (Linux too d00dz) and can be even embedded online.

Sorry that I'm very late with this, but doesn't Game Maker have an "Events List" as well for those that aren't ready to get into GML yet?

Not that I'm against the Game Maker environment, but I've been so used to the Clickteam approach for quite a while now. And if I even STARTED to check into Game Maker, I know there's still a lot to learn from that application.
