It's MFGG Monthly news time. Hurray.
-----------
IN THE MONTH THAT WAS JANUARY 2009- A Donkey Kong Country skin was released. But you probably knew that.
- The Ultra Happy Heart came into existance... but you probably knew that too.
- Barack Obama was made president of the US three times. He was then sent to prison by a military court with three other men for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team.
B.A. Barackus? Yes? No? okay.
- As you can probably guess due to my lack of plugging, I've sorta given up on those timetabled IRC events. Not because they were a bad idea as such, but because there's just not enough people to keep them afloat, and the only ones that were kept afloat didn't really help the state of the IRC. However, saying that, the amount of regular members in the IRC has increased, so it's not a huge loss I suppose. And you can't learn this without trying. That being said, if you're still willing to do workshops or whatever you can still get it done.
- Got several other "official" confirmations that Britian is in an economic recession. I swear they've been "officially" announcing this since October. The French did a 1789 and took to the streets to complain about theirs, and lots more people lost jobs. Fun.
- The first music competition to be held in the GC started. Please make it worthwhile! MFGG's short on musicians and seeing as they're in high demand nowadays... it would be nice to get some more.
- A man walks into a doctor's office with a steering wheel down his pants. The Doctor says, "what's that?" The man replies "I dunno but it's DRIVING ME NUTS"
- But unless you're wanting me to compare the GC to a sine curve, that's pretty much it.

GAME OF THE MONTH™: JANUARY 2008Time for something that isn't boring.
January's Game of the Month™ is:
Mario Bros. VS, by ken martinas recommended by Black Squirrel because once again he forgot to ask others

Here's a game that keeps disappearing off the radar; Mario Bros. VS. But why it's not talked about much is unknown. I mean it's a Mario Bros. clone that works, and in many ways, works better than Nintendo's offerings. MBV takes the Mario Bros. formula and adds a ton of extras including new enemies and items and stuff. As I said many months ago, it's like the Mario Bros. equivalent to Donkey Kong 94 on the GameBoy.

Oh and it also has bonus stages such as this one, where everything goes side-scrolling, which I thought was pretty neat. It's good to have a Mario Bros. fangame rather than a Super Mario Bros. one once in a while.
So yeah give it a whirl.

Review DriveReview Drive #14 which involved me yelling at you people for not reviewing games from 2007 went okay... but not as well as November's. And all those games from 2007 are still there, which is a bit annoying. But the final score was
8/23
≈ 34.8%which is alright. Not great, but if 34.8% of the world's population suddenly died, you'd probably notice. Thanks to everyone who took part. You know who you are and I applaud you for your efforts.
There's now 17
games without a score. Over the months it's been reduced from three pages to just less than one, which is very good... but there's still 17 submissions. Granted, two of those came through within the last month and will no doubt get some attention, but there's still the famous five from 2007 in that list which have been up for review drives twice now and still haven't been shifted up.
But I have decided to retire these review drives for a while. They'll most likely pop up again later, but I think people have got a bit bored of these, because compared to the first bunch, the results aren't quite as spectacular. It makes sense because everyone gets tired of the same old routine eventually, but also if we were to keep going eventually we'd run out of games. I wouldn't want to take work away from future admins!
But obviously I'd still love that above figure to drop, so don't stop reviewing things just because I'm not telling you to on a monthly basis =P
I might pick up review drive 15 in a few months time. Might make it bi-annually. Might make it tri-annually. Let you peeps re-charge your reviewing batteries. But that all depends of course on whether we've got anything that needs reviewing then!

And that'll be it for today I suppose. See you next month.
