Sprite Compo #156- Musical Mayhem

Congrats to shymouse for winning the last compo, he has instructed me to create Compo #156 since hes busy.



"The Super Mario Bros quietly stroll through their mushroom infested park, the peace gave a harmonic tune. As they strode into the pond area they hear a loud screech. Whats that? Music? Slayer?! OH GOD COVER YOUR EARS SUPER MARIO BROS!"

I this compo you are to sprite a mock-up of your own super mario game, the twist is however to base it on your favorite song or a song you find interesting, the song doesn't have to be related to Super Mario or to Nintendo itself.

The song you choose will be the base for your mock-up, try to use the lyrics, genre, and speed of the song to create a perfect scene.

On the other hand you can totally redesign a character in the mario series based on the song.

Requirements in this compo are:

-A 200x150 mininum size for the mock-up, it can however be much bigger if you wish.
-No more than 32 colors.
-Try and be creative.

And btw, ANOTHER pixel art compo?

How is it really pixel art, its just a bunch of sprites mashed together?

Wait...I'm confused...

Can we take sprites from another game and mash them together to fit the song?

Cuz that's what you're making it sound like...

I prefer pixel art anyways

Whys it hard?

The way you described it is a bit confusing for me. So are we to make a mock up based on the vibe what our favorite song gives off? Like a fast pace metal song could be a final boss?

I suppose that could be aranged, or like a Death Metal song could be Post-Appocolypes.

A mock-up is a fake screenshot, does that help?

So, according to this:

A) We have to draw a mock-up from scratch
B) Based on the vibe or the ambient of a song
C) In no more than 32 colors
D) Submitting both the mock-up and the song's name for it to be considered "done".

No I'm still confused, you want us to capture a song in picture form? o.o With Mario characters? Is it supposed to be their reaction to the song? Are they supposed to be sprited as if they were performing it?

Be creative. Its what YOU feel when listening to it.

If I have time, I'll give it a shot.

You know, I actually like this idea, I might go for it.

Although, i think a better idea would be to sprite things in a style based off of how the music feels.

For example, happy light music= bright cartoony style, as apposed to making an entire mockup

so... let me see if i understand

would this idea be "to the rules"?:

Mario and Luigi swimming underwater with various fish around; representing my like for calm soothing music

K, I just had an idea while listening to a remix of 02's battle theme.

Now that I actually have some insperation, this comps theme isn't as impossible.
