Favorite TF2 gamemode?

I haven't played arena, but I'm usually not keen on free-for-all-brawls, which is what this sounds like to me.

I remember having a hoot with payload, though. Everyone pulled their weight, and made sure there was everything we needed on ready. A medic, a heavy, a scout or two, engineer on defense, etc etc.

Arena actually works pretty well, it's still team arena, meaning you know who you have to kill, and people are usually aware of demomen and such due to the "One life per round" factor. Typically, spies seem to be played a bit more, and demomen a bit less than the regular gamemodes. Engies and snipers are few and far between.
