So I scrapped Cavern Soulus and decided to make a new game, but I didn't make a new thread because this game uses alot of the programming and names that were in Cavern Soulus. Meet Perilous Interval. It has a better story, more text, and better graphics, as well as less linear gameplay (although you cant tell from the current demo). Enjoy.

PS: THAT GUY WHO KNOWS WHO HE IS THE GAME STILL HAS YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS AND YOU GET IT THE SAME WAY AS YOU KNOW HOW PM FOR MORE DETAILS

The story is cool, but the graphics are AWFUL.

Just so you all know, I'm TERRIBLE with graphics and music. So if you think graphics or music is more important than storyline or game play, then this isn't the game for you.

They're not more important but they should at least be decent. If the graphics are eye-hurtingly awful then they are a huge detriment to the game.

Just work at pixel for a bit, its really easy to pick up, take a few online lessons.

Yeah what keyser said. The graphics need some work.

Pixeling is really really easy to pick up once you get it, and if you do it right you don't really have to be that good at it, as long as the graphics tie together nicely. That being said, right now they really don't tie together all that well, you're using small detailed characters in front of a blank background with very few details, which doesn't look all that nice.

If you're looking for a good site for learning pixelation I'd recomment looking around http://www.pixeljoint.com/. Look at some of the sprites, evaluate what makes them good and try applying that to your works. Lurk around the forums, gather tips, ect.

I'll try to better the graphics I guess

What I need to work on the most is the backgrounds, right?
I'll spice them up a bit, make them look more like the sprites


Ok I've "spiced" up the background. They are still blandish, but they fit the style better IMO.
You guys like it better?

Well, it's better. But it still needs some work.

See, the backgrounds are still really bland, which doesn't quite fit with the detailed sprites. If you were to add objects in the background, such as crates, stones, holes, ect. in the same style as the sprites it would look a lot better imo.

Experiment with the details, that's what makes game development fun! Right now it just feels like you went "Blargh I'm too lazy to finish this right now so I'll draw a bunch of lines and say it's done blargh" which is precisely the thing you DO NOT want to do in game design.

I didn't make any real details, but I made a few nice grassland tiles. Tried to make some cave, but didn't work out right.
