I think I remember hearing about it being on the Virtual Console

I remember a romhack which had a SMB 1-1 remake.

At one point of the level, you could see Mario walking around behind the castle. If you jumped on him, you would get teleported to a familiar level, except everything was replaced with a white block with a black outline.

Mario acted like a key, and you had to bring him to the begin of the level, where there was a 1-up (which acted like a keyhole).

Doing this activated the secret exit.

And after that, there's a very lenghty musical credits scene in which you stand on a rock. And rock.

and then you move to normal difficulty

you chainsaw a pig's hands off and kill your producer

you're actually a clone and find out that your supposed "amnesia" is because you were only created 7 years ago (thus why you are ****ing immature while you look about 17 years old)


also the guy you were cloned from was cast away and he's really ****ing pissed and back to kill you



then you get a haircut and change your personality completely

You save the world from a giant mono-eyed square alien who took over Earth, by firing giant lasers at him, created by cheering people.

you build turrets while shooting rockets, holding your butterfly knife and eating your sandwich. Then you move a bomb to letter locations, fire your giant gun at people to cure their wounds, fire yet another gun to not-cure other people. Then everything explodes and 'god' tells you that you are in victory.

we have taken the enemy intelligence

It turns out you are actually the other half of the evil guy. You can choose to team up with him and massacre your friends while you have almost infinite power, or have a long tedious boss battle with him.

The sun and moon are fighting, and you must find seven stars and give them to a giant comet in space to make them stop the argument, but it turns out that the guy who told you to do this was behind this plan to take over your planet.

Dark Messiah?

You accidentally lose all of your weapons except one, which turns very powerful, and after steamrolling the final dungeon you beat the final boss by throwing a few balls at him.

Mecha: I dunno, I never played that, but it's pretty much generic RPG plot #423

The final boss is a butterfly.
