Anyone who is asking "Whats the big deal? It's just the DS without the GBA slot." needs to actually READ about it.

It plays music. My MP3 player can do that.
It takes photos. My camera can do that.
It browses the internet. My laptop can do that.

What. praytell, makes it so bloody amazing?

QUOTE
  • Wario Ware has already proven that the cameras can be put to interesting use. Can't be bothered to find the video now.
  • Online functionalities such as DSi Ware's shop will allow us to get interesting proggies such as perhaps an online enabled Pictochat.
  • Bigger screens for better display.
  • Music playback without the use of flash carts.
  • etc.

So, uh...

Why are we getting excited about this again?

I'm probably going to get this, mostly for the camera and slightly bigger screen.
I mean I do own a camera but it sucks. .-.

Personally I disagree with removing the GBA slot, particularly because the new Pokemon games put it to use. But it's pretty useless to add it to the DSi since those GBA games are so hard to find offline now that most of their customers wouldn't care.

I guess it's good for portability but I don't know.

Your camera can't "put you into the game".

The other features come with most portable jack of all trades devices these days and I've never seen you complaining about such features' existance in those devices as well as the PSP.

If you're not excited for it, that's fine. But don't use "we" to express your opinion. Those who are looking forward to the system find such behavior to be condescending.

SHOVELWARE!!!

and the fact that it has slightly better hardware specs like a faster processor and 4 times more RAM that could potentially end up in games that can't run on the phat and lite

edit: oh and the cameras too

forced obsolescence!!!

Why does Nintendo not simply save this innovation for the next gen?
This is too much to say that this console is still a DS, but not enough for me to consider it next-gen.

there's a difference between complaining about features and saying "why should I care about these features?"

Yeah, its nice and all that the DS is catching up with the PSP or using some gimmicky eyetoy type thing, but its hardly something to get excited over.

anyway I'm going to have to get a new DS soon, I hope the DS Lites go down in price (doubt they will though!)

Most likely because they want this product to remain as merely a hardware improvement to the DS. Its nature as a disruptive product allows it to maintain an unusually long lifespan unless something similarly disruptive can actively compete with it. The Wii is doing the same thing with the Motion+, which may very likely be fully integrated into future remotes. Sony did this once before with portable transistor radios, first making what would be considered a terrible PoS of a device, which was regularly refined until it was almost perfect.

Backwards compatibility.

If they moved on to a system that did not have two screens, the bottom one being a touch screen, you could not play a single DS game on it.

Same here.
Except I don't own my own camera.

And my MP3 player is rather old and for some reason can't connect with my favorite pair of headphones.

Wow. I really don't care at all.

I don't mean to bring everyone's mood down, but there is no reason to get excited over DS ware.
We'll just end up getting even more shovelware, but now we can just take it more places.

But in every thread about the lite, everyone assures that the phat is so much better than the lite.
