QUOTE (Comrade Kesha @ Feb 19 2009, 07:33 PM)
progress updates? To see how their project is doing, right? milestone reminders? like event days and stuff? what kind of tournaments are we talking about here? sprite ones, online game ones, or just any kind in general?test runs?this just means checking and making sure everything works, right?wondering what kind of in-depth editing you really need here. Just a simple news/content editor?

and when does this start?

anyway I'm still thinking about it- it's a lot of stuff! I don't think I'd be too much help in the graphics design department but I can probably help with pretty much everything else- I'll post a resume type thing maybe later if it doesn't seem too daunting.

1. Yes, indeed on the first one. The milestone reminders are essentially reminding booth owners of the current date, and that it's getting closer to the event of NCFC.

2. Any kind. We didn't even have tournaments in the first NCFC, it was something I brought up with Shadowman, and I just decided a Brawl tournament, because I had it. Maybe someone could supervise even better and more successful tournaments, considering last year I was attempting to do the tournaments, plus the radio show, plus general supervision, plus the IRC chat.

3. Test runs. The radio was me and Shadowman, so you shouldn't have to worry about that too much, it's for whoever wants to communicate on the radio, since I plan on taking care of the radio this year.

4. Yes, and making sure the game is actually quality enough for the event... and of course, that it's not a joke booth.

5. The website, during the event, had to be changed more in-depth. Not only for news, but to show who won tournaments, booth icons, etc etc.

Shadowman and I, both years, started development in June. We'd advise massive communication earlier, April or May.

I can't stress this enough. The Flash and HTML pages both had a news ticker, but unfortunately, they had to be updated manually and separately. A solid, dynamic site would make mass updates a lot easier.

Another example: when 64digits dropped out, I had to go manually go through every page and remove their button. There's gotta be a better way to do that.

I'd love to help. I could help with the planning, site, forum, and pre-NCFC stuff, although not quite sure about the actual event.

Completely farfetched idea here but

TCSMS. Could that be modded into something usable? It would eliminate the need for a forum too, assuming the comments are moderated (though you might have some difficulty organising a Minigame comp or whatever)

I don't know how customisable the thing is but

- it does game hosting
- it does news posting
- it does comment... toasting
- it does user management and bannings
- and I'm guessing you can link to the IRC chatroom and FAQs and whatever really easily

and if NCFC continues to be hosted on taloncrossing it makes a lot of sense. Well okay... ShadowMan knows how to use it. So it's not like you're throwing people in the deep end.

oh and lets not forget seeing as both M:FM and MFGG uses it (and the old ZFGN had a go with it too) there's a lot of experience out there in our communities.

I'm only suggesting this because chances are there'll be a lot of talk about PHP systems and the like but a high chance of nothing actually getting done, or if it is done, it's done too late.

Of course I don't know what limits there are on TCSMS. I mean you'd have to scrap everything that wasn't suited for games, and I don't know if it would respond well to such massive cuts.

But worth asking I suppose. It would save a lot of time.

tbh I think a full php site would be too much- yeah it'd be awesome! but it'd be way too much of a hassle to build and set up

tcms might be nice too, but I think that a simple html site sprinkled with php from here to there (some includes, a news updater, maybe a php/mysql booth list) would be easier to set up and be very effective.

I could make it too- the only thing that I don't have much experience in is mySQL and even then when I last fiddled with it years ago it wasn't *too* hard.

but yeah I guess I'll apply.
I'm experienced with html/css and a bit of php and mysql- you could probably get someone better with this stuff for sure, but if not, hey I could handle it

general management of stuff isn't too hard for me, I was a ZFGN mod and admin for a time, ran a small (like 10-20 active members) gaming forum for a while, am an IRC server admin (though the network is pretty much dead now lol), and do have experience with shoutcast (I'm guessing thats what you use for the radio)

so yeah I'd say I'm interested and decently qualified!~

Actually, BS' TCSMS system would be more effective than what we had before, plus make things much easier to update and take care of.

RII actually helped mainly to take care of the website/server items, so he might be glad to help set up that system for NCFC.

TCSMS is a little unstable/technically isn't supported anymore. Maybe RII could use some of the techniques to whip up a simpler, more specialized site. For example, there's no need for a queue or registration, plus most of the pages are informational. Reviews could just be reduced to a yes/no system like SAGE had last year, etc. etc.

TCSMS isn't really a good fit. If TCMS (MFGG 3) were ready, that would be appropriate, but it's not, and I don't know that it would be in time.

I could help anywhere it is needed as long as it doesn't deal with codeing the site.

Bumping - I want to give this a good enough time to allow others interested to apply, but I also want to start getting the organizers ready soon, as it takes a while to set it up and do pre-production.

I'm not very good at any HTML or coding (still learning) but I would love to help out in any way for this years event as being around for last year's NCFC was very fun. The main reason I would want to help out with NCFC is that I want to contribute to the fan gaming scene since I haven't made a fan game in many years (since I suck at it ohmy.gif ) .

For my resume:
-Guest on the NCFC radio show 2008 (though you already know this Yoshiman)
-Updates my site, Star Hill Productions, every week with a new video and have yet to miss a week.
-A team leader with some experience (organizing the Star Hill group)
