http://www.nintendodsi.com/iwataasks/vol1_page1.html

These Iwata asks things are often ignored because they don't often reveal much, however:

QUOTE
Iwata:
Umm, I think it might be easier to understand if I specified what that “certain specification” was. Originally, the Nintendo DSi was designed so that two DS games could be inserted.

Kuwahara:
Right. There were two slots.

Iwata:
There were a lot of requests among gamers, of course, and from in house as well, for two slots. We also thought that would be good, and, even though we were aware of the drawback of increased size, we decided to proceed with two slots. But when you and your team made an actual model and I held it in my hands, all I could think was, “It’s so big!”

Kuwahara:
Compared to the final version, it was much bigger. It was about three millimeters thicker too.

two DS slots!

and of course there's all sorts of other stories regarding the development of the console

so what do you think? Would two DS slots be better in any way?

There was high demand for it?

Honestly I don't know of the use... unless you got unlockables for having two particular games in.

What's the use of having 2 slots?? it's not like you are goin to play both games at the same time.
Unless it's useful for games such as pokemon diamond and pearl, where you dun have to trade pokemons to get them all, just having the other game in the other slot will revel all pokemons.

Hey, dun get me wrong, I was just giving my opinion and that wasn't real.

are you kidding me, Nintendo

QUOTE
so some people may think that 0.3 megapixels isn’t much for this day in age, but that’s 640 × 480. In other words, you can capture images at a resolution 2.5 times that of the length and width of the DS screen.

With the Nintendo DSi you can enlarge part of a picture you’ve taken and there’s no sense that the resolution isn’t high enough. Another problem with higher pixel count is that the memory needed to save each picture increases considerably.

"Let's nevermind the fact that in this day and age, if people saw a 640x480 picture on their screen, it'd be miniscule. Let's compensate for that by allowing people to enlarge a picture so it can be even bigger in resolution!"

yeah and make the picture a hell of a lot grainier

i can understand the memory issue explained later, but SD cards are really cheap these days - i bought two 4 GB SD cards for $30, and even with my digital camera, i can take >3000 x >2000 resolution pictures and fill up the card with 360 of those pictures - and they load up rapidly as well

EDIT: not to mention Nintendo should really be taking their memory concerns to the Wii and making a hard drive

Two DS slots would definitely have been nice, so you could switch between your two favourite games.

What I find cool about the DSi is that the Power button works like the Wii's home button apparently, taking the need to switch off the system to change cards.
Still I wish they would have put all that effort into a next-gen console instead of a current-gen life-extension.

640x480 is fine. Sure it's a bit small (I mean the majority of the world uses 1024x768 for computer monitors - that resolution would be a better size at least) but I've never really seen a practical use for 32740982134 megapixel cameras anyway. It's not like my printer could print the stuff without resizing it, and my PC monitor's resolution is too small as well.

I don't know what the overal quality of the photos are, and that'll be more important in the long run. Pretty sure there's mobile phones out there that can take 5+ megapixel images but as they compress it so terribly there's a significant quality loss.

I doubt Nintendo is going to worry about that now. The Wii has been out far too long to even bother with it.
The next console SHOULD have a hard drive.

As for the two DS slots, it's not really that useful. Maybe some unlockables, and switching between games easier. But you don't really need it there.

"Stop and Swap" type unlockables was the first thing that came to my mind.

Sounds like the "GB/GBC/GBA slot" got lost in translation to them.

Wut no
The DSi is so useless... Reminds me of Apple. The all-in-one-trendy thing.

I mean, is Nintendo trying to be "hip" or something?

If only we could get Rare back... wait, don't they still do Nintendo Handheld Games?

EDIT: Nevermind...
"Of course, that decision pushed back the release date, and you had to give up the double-slot design. But it was more important that lots of people who would see the Nintendo DSi would want one."

This is important enough for a Double-Post:

HOTSWAPPING!
"Speaking of subtle aspects of the Nintendo DSi,
I like the way when you insert a game card that game’s icon pops up on the menu, and when you take it out, the icon disappears. Before, when you changed games, you had to shut off the power once. With the Nintendo DSi, you just lightly press the power button to return to the menu, and change software without turning off the power"

is it the same texture that "prevents" fingerprints and scratches on the touch screen?

Cause that doesnt seem to work too well
