Lol, never heard of this company.

It's the same as with all the other patent trolls, they never used "their ideas" and then go out to sue anybody who produces something very loosely, almost nothing like, their "product" you never hear about ever.

These systems and games have been out for years now, and this company is JUST NOW seeking "rightful" compensation?

**** YOU GUYS I'M SUING YOU FOR USING MY AIR, I PATENTED IT EVEN THOUGH IT EXISTED BEFORE I WAS BORN

You can't ****ing patent telecommunication.

No, but you can patent a means of distribution via telecommunication.

It's like patenting a boat component.

PS: The Japanese have a history of this so-called patent trolling. It is in fact a perfectly legitimate way of doing business, especially if you don't have the means to produce your invention and don't want to give up your rights to the ip to a company.

Sony Nintendo and Nokia can buy out Edge, fire everyone who worked there, and burn the building to the ground out of spite if they wanted to. Damn that would be awesome.

Because we're apparently in a spate of only hearing about Texan firms. Someone fluent in moonspeak, or hell, any language besides English, should do some digging and see what patent-trolls have cropped up in countries that speak their language(s).

Yeah, Texas is the only English-speaking area in North America!

I'm sorry MTC, where exactly did I imply that Texas was the only English-speaking area in North America?

Is it because I didn't also say HAY CANADA LOOK FOR PATENT TROLLS TOO OK??

Because if you want I can add that in there. As well as the UK for our buddies across the pond.

Oh and Australia for our members down under.

Sorry I did not include all English speaking states, countries, and other various subdivisions of geopolitical regions in my post. In fact, I don't believe I included any whatsoever, including GLORIOUS TEXAS, PRIDE OF THE NEW SOUTH AND PROMISED LAND OF 'MUHRKA. I will correct this ASAP, as long as you find a patent holder in Canada that has recently filed a lawsuit for infringement on a product that has already hit distribution.

I don't know.

Also, it's in the Middle east. Not in Asia Jazz

The Middle East is in Asia. The Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese aren't the only Asians, you know.

Sony, Nintendo and Nokia are currently infringing on patents related to the connectivity of handheld gaming devices, a new complaint says.

A court filing obtained by Edge from February 13 shows that Plano, Tex.-based Wall Wireless LLC is suing Sony, Nintendo, Nokia and related companies including Sony Computer Entertainment America and Nintendo of America for allegedly infringing upon U.S. patent 6,640,086, named "Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing Real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet."

The patent explains that the invention "pertains ... to methods and systems that allow an operator to distribute messages having aural or visual content that is generated by the operator using handheld apparatuses such as mobile telephones."

Wall Wireless alleges that Sony's PSP, Nintendo's DS, as well as certain real-time online multiplayer games such as Mario Kart and WipeOut Pulse infringe on the patent. The plaintiff also says that Nokia's mobile devices N81, N82, N93 and N95 infringe on the patent, along with the mobile game Reset Generation.

Wall Wireless' namesake, Corbet Wall, filed for the patent in 2001 in Taiwan and the U.S. The U.S. Patent Office issued the patent in 2003.........

(skipping a few paragraphs)

"As a result of Defendants’ infringement of the ‘086 patent, Wall Wireless has suffered monetary damages that are compensable ... by no less than a reasonable royalty," the filing stated.

More freaking Texas-based patent trolling... at least it's not just Nintendo this time. So many other people could fall into the category.
