| QUOTE (Dark Yoshi @ Feb 25 2009, 03:29 AM) | taxes went up dramatically post 50's and because of it a single salary was unable to support a family
in the 50's income tax was like 2% |
Income tax is actually an unconstitutional tax if I recall correctly.

Oh, really?
Righto, then. If I recall correctly, the people that told me this were a little quirky.

After only reading the original post, I've come to these summaries. 1) Women are the cause for lower salaries. 2) Women dislike having a job. 3) Women fought for something they already had (being education as an example).
And in the end, it states loopholes and such.
Now, if women balanced salaries out, and nowadays men and women work for the same pay, a man (without the balanced salaries) would still be working for the same pay as a man and woman in a family right now. Of course, you have to take in account in the hours it takes, being you'd work twice as much hours with a man and woman than a man with the higher salaries.
There is, of course, the note of politicians and certain presidents (Teddy Roosevelt, this is to you), started the progressive movement, which is basically another name for the former populist movement. They preached equality and all that. With that, and Theodore Roosevelt's bully pulpit abilities, the conforming ideals of the U.S. became progressive.
Even then, woman's suffrage would probably be used as a tool if civil war ever broke out (but not in the same way as the slaves were released by President Lincoln).
If I have to embellish, I'll think on that. This is just what comes to mind.
Edit: Oh, I forgot to speak of woman's education. I do think that they wanted the acknowledgment. Many people do, do they not? Of course, without acknowledgment, there would be the assumption and gender stereotype (without education) that women are generally less knowledgeable than a man.
