yeah.....but still I like the sprites. and the 360 world rotation and fish eye seem like kinda cool gimmicks to me.

yeah, and in my opinion, i like the self-controlling - ever since it was introduced in Sonic Adventure, it was like "aw sweet, i don't have to potentially throw myself of a cliff accidentally"


but explain the gimmicky part of Sonic Xtreme


EDIT: the fish-eye is not part of the engine test, by the way

What about the Sonic advance games? People liked those games.
What about every Sonic game, because they've all been enjoyable, nowadays people just talk about how the games are crap to try and fit into the baww all sonic games ever suck for reasons that have no ground or have been in the games since the start!
If those people could give answers?

This is all old (no really, I kinda posted most of these within 24 hours of their release) and you are all uneducated

and that Assembler video showing that engine test is spreading the uneducated ideas of NiGHTS engines when it was really the work of Chris Coffin at STI. And Croshi's second post is straight from Sonic Jam - a completely unrelated project from Japan. Its engine eventually developed into Sonic Adventure. Next you'll be pointing out that Tails was a guardian of a tube blocker!

Yes Assembler's prototype eventually leaked its way onto the net for us all to play. I've got a copy, it doesn't do much that wasn't covered in that video. But it's an engine test which was eventually used for the boss battles, nothing more, nothing less. Except for the fact that it's boring and generally sucks. But as do all ENGINE TESTS

Chris Senn, one of the lead guys in the project, has contributed loads of stuff to the community in the last few years. One of his side projects with other members of his forums is to "remake" Sonic X-treme as a fangame, but development on that could be long and slow because Senn works. That's been going on since at least 2007 (maybe even 2006? I can't remember) and development on it has been kept very quiet.

but seriously you guys worry me sometimes - I thought everyone was reasonably up-to-date here. Fair enough with the two more recent videos showing all the funky fisheye gameplay features that could have been used, but the zone previews were massive news at the time since they were all bundled with all these textures and music packs and concept art and models and scripts and stuff. In terms of prototype material the only thing that has bettered it in the last few years was drx's 1000+ prototype release this time last year.

This. The name Sonic XTreme holds interest still, being it was canceled. I'd love to see somebody finish it for kicks.
