I'm done actually, uploading it now. Decided to go with something dancey, I think it came out pretty good though as always I think I could've done better. Lost interest halfway.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ym8jjq

Lost interest half-way? Sounds like you attempted to continue this thing no matter what for hours. 'Tis not good to do that. You need to take a break for a few hours, come back, and play the song from the beginning. You'll renew the interest that way.

Here's my completed entry. It's short (about 35 seconds), but the only thing I could have really done is looped it. But yeah, here it is:

Shame it only got that far, it was really getting into it.

Also kind of a shame that this competition doesn't really seem to get a lot of looking at, a lot of good music in here.

So, Redux, your remix.

You've caught me on a good side with the music.

Chip-tune version of that song is incredible, and I absolutely love gated/arpeggiated and sequenced instruments.

I also enjoy the filter changes and tuning alterations to instruments, you've fit it perfectly to the genre you've chosen.

The only thing I don't quite enjoy is the equalizing of the snare - you've got the bass drum right, but for that genre, the snare is usually equalized to have a high band pass-through and reach good volume on higher frequencies, to add the tension usually subjected into the hardcore electronica music.

Other than that, great job! I'll be uploading my song here soon, as it's rendering right now - I forgot that I now equalize my instruments during the creation of the song, so that it's easier to do a global equalization.

that also gives me a chance to see if i can upload some sort of streamer to my website so i can try having a constant stream of all the competition entries so that more people will vote without having to download each song

EDIT: ajkhasfkgd Pucifur your's is so fantastic and unexpected

Alright my lingo is pretty basic when it comes to critiquing so don't expect mine to be as in-depth.

I agree with the snare being wrong, I went through about 10 different snares before I settled on one, I really need to find more instruments because I kind of made what I did from a lacking set.

Glad you liked the chip-tune bit, honestly it was the most fun part. I'd happily do a chip-tune competition because I love the stuff. As for the electronic part, I still kind of like it but at the same time it wasn't my first choice. I originally wanted to do it all metally sounding like the original but as I said earlier, my instruments were pretty lacking and the standard FLstudio slayer wasn't cutting it for me.

Also, probably a good idea to note it was my first time doing anything electronic in Flstudio. Not a bad start =P

I'll get onto yours now it's downloaded.

Yeah, the Slayer VSTi sucks pretty bad.

No need to change the snare - it's good. I was saying you need to equalize it. Set the sample to a send in the Mixer, and attach a Fruity Equalizer 2 to it, and then bring up one of the ones on the right side, and mess around that area - it'll make it achieve that high treble frequency.

but i think it was worth it

Well I love the build up in the opening, adds a bit of suspense. What can I say, this thing is massive so it's hard to say everything, bare in mind as I sum it up in a few crappy paragraphs. The instruments used are top-notch, i'd love to grab a few off you sometime.

As I say the opener is great, and it leads into some nice pumpy music, I love how it slows down after, it's really a great opening. I couldn't say anything bad about, it's great to hear the subtle changes to the melody in this bit and also how you've added more to it with your own instruments. It leads very well into the next part (gosh I wish I knew the names of the songs, it'd make my life easier), there's a trumpet or something I don't QUITE like here, but overall it does the job.

The lyrics that come in... are kind of hilarious. What can I say? They're fitting surpringly, and it doesn't overshadow the music which is top-notch. I did kind of feel like it dragged on longer than it needed, but you ended the whole lyrical bit with style.

It didn't lead in all that well to the Pokey Battle music unfortunately but it was a fitting break from the lyrics =P I'm not too sure I was fond of the church piano type instrument used here, I think it would've been better had it been a lot more powerful sounding and less dull and sounding like it was being played far away.

It leads really well into the metal bit very well though, this is what I was trying to achieve for mine. Alas, my instruments aren't as well fleshed out as yours =P

The bit that follows isn't quite as strong, but I realise it wasn't meant to be. Still, it felt like it was missing something in the background. But as usual, you picked it up with what followed and I loved that bit. Not sure what music it was but the electronics and strong drums mixed well and the tune itself was great, which was then followed by strong guitars which was done excellently.

Is this getting too long? I'm writing it as I listen.

I'll skip the guitary bit, i'll say nice touch with the crowd cheer and the live sound that came from it, though the crowd sounded a bit tinny.

When the xylophone bit (bad wording) comes in, it's quite pretty, though they don't fade and the faint ringing carries on, I think it would've been nicer if they'd faded to silence, if that makes sense. This whole section is quite pretty, the instruments as always are top-notch and very fitting, it was kind of a shame for them to end =P

The bass here annoyed me a little bit, not sure why. Maybe it sounded a little fake or something, or perhaps some variation would've been nice but it kind of got on my nerves. It also set up a false sense of pacing for me because I thought it was going to lead into something after the drum instrumental but it kind of stopped short and didn't feel quite right.

Not sure what so say about the next bit that follows with the organ. It's good but something felt off, not sure if it was the organ itself or something missing, it felt a little bare. Still great though.

Then it leads into the finale with the trumpets and such. I'm kind of upset because it was a great song and it's a shame to end it! Still, some of the instruments weren't that powerful, the drums needed to be more... not sure what to say, strong? And I wasn't a fan of the trumpets etc, it kind of felt for it to be a finale in such a "big band" way, it should've been a lot more powerful. In the end it felt like a couple of trumpets and a few drums and after such a long medley and a whole lot of great music, it really deserved a REALLY powerful ending.

Anyway, that's my... review? Sorry it's not full of all the lingo and jargon you gave to me, i'm not good with that kind of stuff. I just make music and enjoy listening to it, so I hope you were able to follow it.

All in all, it was an absolutely excellent medley, I honestly didn't expect 17 minutes worth, I was thinking 5 =P Next time i'll be more careful when offering to critique, cuz there goes my morning! Some really excellent bits in the song and some that could've used something else, but overall there wasn't a moment when I was bored or hating any of it, it flowed well and did the music from the Mother series justice. Great stuff.

Your critique is absolutely wonderful, no worries, I really appreciate it. I'm definitely taking a good amount of it into consideration.

But some of it makes me feel as though I don't quite believe you've played Mother 3. My intent was to enhance the emotion of each game, and while everything you said for Earthbound made sense, some of it didn't about Mother 3. For instance, you said the bass was repetitive and got on your nerves. Well... it's supposed to, not to mention that I wanted to keep it similar to the original, in which the bass stays constant like that through-out the song.

I will definitely agree with the last part of the song - I believe in order to achieve a full-power ending, I'll need to insert more instruments, disperse notes to create more of a full chord for each part, and bring in some more bass to fill the low end.

Everything else, I did think about, and again, I appreciate your critique! Thank you very much!

Yeah I haven't played Mother 3 at all so take it from the music standpoint rather than the originality standpoint. If it was meant to be like the original then that's how it should be.

Still, from a musical standpoint, the bass part still got on my nerves. I think it was more the fact it didn't sound like a proper bass guitar or something (honestly not sure how to explain it sorry) it sounded a bit fake but as I say I haven't played the game, it did the original justice though, but it still irked me =P

Still, when I say that its really a MINOR minor gripe in what is otherwise a great part of a greater medley.

Fender, sounds nice, but I can't quite figure out what it is. It seems to be using the chord progression from Twoson, but I'm not sure.

also now i shall see if i can get a streamer going for these songs
