If it's because of the age ratings why doesn't Nintendo just add a switch in the parental controls that can turn the region lock on and off?

If it is because of age rating, then there should just be a switch somewhere to disable region locking or even to just select region (even if age rating setting is unused). Parental control should be done the old fashioned way in my opinion, not by computer but rather by manually showing the tape/etc, like you did with old TV.

That's what I'm worried about. I prefer the old DS because only I can upgrade the firmware. Also the old DS is not region-coded and it has a SLOT-2 for GBA cartridges, DSi doesn't support that
