My skills have improved in Game Maker, and I want to see if I am able to make any usefull things. So, if there is an engine you've always been looking for, but just weren't able to find it, or it sucked badly. Well I'm here to help you out, just suggest an engine for me to make, and I will see what I can do.

Note: Please ask for small engines, and not full game engines like... Ultramario's Ultramario Engine, or Hello Engine 3. Engines more like M&L battle engine, or Mario pipe engine, Metroid shooting, you know. : )

How about an engine for enemies throwing spears that arc and are only dangerous on the pointy end.

Mask that only covers the tip

Make image_angle = direction

Make direction = a combination of gravity and speed (its simple physics)

Oh and Burnin Leo, Artificial AI would be Artificial Artificial Intelligence

What do you mean by one sprite?

I guess he means the technique of only using ONE sprite for a character and having the animation written in code.
This way you can avoid duplicate sub-images and you only need to have one sprite instead of one for standing, one for walking, one for jumping, one for etc.

I say you should try this out, it will pay off and help a lot of people, including yourself.

I think you would have the most success with a very modular engine that can be modified to fit a vague genre of games.

For instance, if you had an engine that functioned in eight-directional movement, you could turn it isometric by modifying the axes (ie. you move half as fast up / down as you do left / right).

For a platforming engine, the speed, gravity, jump height, friction etc could fit a myriad of very different games.

Whats so messy about it anyway? Everything is ordered fine. Just to help me get an idea of what good code should look like, could you give me an example of what your code looks like?
