I want to roll over and sleep until society stops sucking. I'll enjoy my eternal nap.

Here's a question I keep asking myself:
All this stuff about the entertainment world getting worse and worse, is it truely getting worse? Or is it just because we think the stuff we grew up with was better?

How much of it is just looking back and comparing to what is now?

For me, I don't think it's really that much of a difference, because I do see shows that I really like that are either well-made or well-written, like Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends and Avatar: The Last Airbender. That shows there's still really good stuff currently.

I keep drawing paralells to those older people back in the day who thought that Elvis was destroying society with his pelvis moves.

Because I KNOW I'm not an old fist-shaking crazy person.

It's obvious that whatever you grow up with is going to be what you prefer for the rest of your life, for the most part at least.

That's why you see old people with antennae tv's and middle-aged people with computers running Windows 3.1.

But I don't turn my nose up at new technology either.

That sounds incredibly emo and suicidal.

I haven't seen anybody run a Windows 3.1 computer since... well over a decade ago. There's no benefits of having one other than for the sake of novelty stuff... and tbh it's usually people in their 20s and 30s who collect old computers.

I don't think your example shows that people like this sort of thing, it's just the stuff they have in the house. If you've got a perfectly fine TV that was made in the 80s there would be no reason to switch it for a better one (unless it wasn't ready for digital switchover or something). Especially if you don't watch TV that often. I don't really see that as some sort of attraction to old stuff. A bit tight to own 20+ year TV, but meh.

With television shows and movies people often get annoyed because their childhood shows are cancelled and replaced with ones that may not appeal to them as much. It's not really society going down the drain because this stuff has happened for a good 50+ years and nobody should be forced to make the same thing forever (I mean look what happened with the Simpsons - a lot of people aren't too fond of the new episodes).

However it only really applies to kids shows. I think it's safe to say I've grown out of whatever Cartoon Network or Nick or Disney are offering. Their new stuff doesn't appeal to me, their old stuff only does because of nostalgia (and the adult appeal that some of these things secretly have). There's always the magical option of not watching a programme... that often kills it faster.

Sooty and Co or the cast of rainbow aren't exactly going to appeal to the yonger generations nowadays. That's why the characters turn up on things like the Weakest Link and stuff kids don't generally watch.

I have no idea who the Jonas brothers are though I seem to remember them being a bit clueless on Paul O'Grady or Al Murray or something. Whoop de doo they made a terrible movie and the critics panned them for it... it doesn't really effect me (though it is somewhat funny). They'll either evolve into something less kiddy or fade away... only positives here. At the end of the day these people are out to appeal to kids. Specifically the young female variety. It's hardly the end of the world if they don't appeal to everybody.

My 10 year old nephew and my 8 year old niece have both told me straight up that they do not like the Jonas Brothers, specifically, their singing.

High School Musical is another story though :P

Nothing gets popular being bad, it's just a matter of taste, some people just go the extra mile of saying that what they dislike is truly dumb and the lovers are either sheep or inferior minds.

People like that are called dicks.

True Story: I have not heard of the Jonas Brothers outside of people hating them. Your hatred is only getting them more publicity bros.
