I am working on a mario fan game.I am still in the mental stage so there is no demo or screensots.I need a name still. Also feel to give suggestions for enimies, bosses ,and playable characters I just might use them. I have organized categories for information about the game.
Plot Bowser steals the King Ztar,which is the ultimate source of dark power, and absorbs the power to become invincible and kill the Mario brothers. So Bowser captures the princess again to lure them into a trap. When they got there Bowse attacked and nearly killed them, but he didn't now they were actually alive, and when bowser buried them Mario and Luigi tunneled out, and fled back to the real world for 3 years until Mario convinced Luigi to go back with him.When they got back the Kingdom was diferent, the well painted colorful houses were gray with paint peeling off,the green trees were leaveless and dying, the Star Road was destroyed, and the happy Toads and Toadettes were ghostes. Mario and Luigi realzed the only way to win is to get the keys to unlock the King Star,the ultimate surce of light power.
Playable Characters,I put them in order they join. Mario -(Start with) Luigi -(Start with) Yoshi -(Joins at the end of chapter 1) Mallow-(Joins after you rescue Frogfucious in Chapter 2) Geno-(Joins after you beat Chapter 3) Wario -(Join when you beat the Wario Bros. at Wario Castle in Chapter 5) Waluigi- (Join when you beat the Wario Bros. at Wario Castle in Chapter 5)

Making a platformer isn't exactly "hard" but it isn't the easiest thing you can make.
You'll need to worry about:
- Making a decent physics engine that seems realistic (skidding, jumping, etc.) - Enemy AI (outside from just moving left and right, unless you want a boring game) - Level Design - Types of moves you can have (do you just want a single slash attack? Or a 5 hit combo?) - And more.
You sound like you're new to fangame creation, so if I were you, I'd probably start a bit simpler. But if you really want to make a fangame, I'd suggest maybe looking at an engine as an example. MFGG and GMC have plenty of platformer engines, so there's many to choose from.
Just one word of caution though: Don't use some of the engines on MFGG. If you do, only use them to learn. Reasons:
1) They're overused. We've received many fangames on the mainsite, of which have used Hello 3 Engine and other notorious ones. If you use one, people are probably going to ridicule you for it. 2) The engines themselves seem to have weird variables that no one fixes. If you actually DO use these engines to create a game, at least change some of the variables, so it seems different.

I think you're getting a bit ambitious.
I think you might get your head around the character switching/unlocking, and koopa shell attack.
Making a SSB Boss isn't exactly easy, unless you want to succumb them to a specific pattern of attacks, like Masterhand, Ridley, etc. But just using normal characters with a SSB fighting style. . . .I honestly don't know where to begin wrapping my head around that.
Spear throwing and Lakitu spiny throwing might be a bit advanced, depending on how to plan to implement it. I assume you'd want them to arc though, in which case, would take a bit of skill.
If you're serious about making this your first project, learn GML, the Game Maker code, right away. It will significantly help you.
Otherwise, like Guinea said, start simpler, and work your way up.
