Did any of you Californians checked this out yet? It seems to be made a big deal out of.

From what I've heard and seen, students and teachers in the schools in California made a big protest today, because of the teachers being fired because of budget cuts. They protest to reconsider other plans, such as lowering the income of teachers by 2 percent. But the ones who are in charge decided to fire some teachers instead. My school is already eliminated some choices for electives from last year, and it is predicted that the average class will increase from 32 students to 47.

The main street was pretty much blocked at my school during the protest early in the morning. So what do you think about this?

also I hate how the district is finally cutting throats

they are basically eliminating those teachers who have worked for the least years, and not by the teacher's rock bottom level of competence

I mean I can count a few teachers with my hand that should be layed-off instead of teachers that I am going to miss so very much when they're gone. ;_;

if they're gonna do something they should at least do it right

Blame the teachers unions that define the seniority and bumping policies. Schools have their hands tied when it comes to who they get rid of. Even if you eliminate a bad teacher, their seniority may allow them to bump another good teacher somewhere else.

I work in a public school system, so budget and cuts have been a huge topic lately. They're looking at cutting around 50 faculty and staff between 6 buildings, and I can only wait to see how the whole process unravels as union rules basically reshuffle the entire district.

But the reality is schools across the country are facing enormous budget deficits and even when other cost-cutting measures are taken into account like eliminating bus transportation, eliminating after school sports and activities funding, or even closing down an existing building and consolidating your resources, most of that deficit can only be closed with staff cuts.

I think three of five teachers at my school wore pink (one wears it fairly often though, so I dunno).

Bemoaning the current state of affairs is perfectly reasonable keyser, even if the caterwauling gets to be grating at times.

Well I don't think that teachers are the first thing people should be worried about...

Auto Industry failing would be alot worse than losing a few teachers...

I started to notice when my favorite seafood restaurant closed down. Goddamn why man, I thought that place would never die out. ;_;
