My father and I have received a laptop tons better than my current one. One problem: it's a Dell the person didn't give as a power supply!
We do have an old power supply for a different Dell with the same plug. Dell says that you can't use the power supply that claims to be "70 watts" if the computer needs 90 watts but we found out that all that's different is that the 90 watt has two negative receptacles and one positive, while the old ones had one negative, one positive, and one vacant. With our older 70 watt power supply my father drilled a hole through the vacant spot and ran a wire from it to the outside wire (negative) on the cable. The computer's reading it as 90 watts and the battery has been charging. Dell insists that it doesn't have enough watts, but this is not the case! They just aren't being utilized! And yes, we're sure it's working.

Post your own success stories about modifying electronics or comment about mine.

well it probably DOESN'T have enough power capability, especially since computer companies tend to inflate PSU power ratings

i guess you'll find out if your laptop keeps switching to battery power when you do something intensive like play games or whatever

While I didn't modify the controller, when the right analog stick on my Logitech controller for the computer broke, I took it apart and attempted to fix it, until it broke again months later.

I've repaired av-cables, game controllers and RC cars. Usually replacing something that's broken. 8\

Two of my cousins were putting in the modchip into my PSone, and one of them dropped the welder.
Went through the PSone, so they went to the store, bought another one, switched the insides, and returned the "burnt" one.

Success.

I don't even believe in conflict diamonds. That's just a movie. Think about it. Ain't nobody thought about nothing about no conflict diamonds until the movie came out.

I've went through quite a few 64's in my time by overplaying them(me and my dad used to play Golden Eye, Banjo Kazooie&Tooie and Bomberman nonstop when I was little).
When I hit 6 or 7th grade my dad planned on throwing em all out except our still working one. I decided to take them all apart and build a "Super or Pyscho 64"... to my surpise this overly large and fire hazardous 64 happend to work. It was a blast a few friends came over to try it out.... after 5 hours of play(give or take) it started smoking my tv flashed and a loud pop went off. We switched it off for a while and went outside to do what ever came back turned it on and this odd buzzing noise started and a few sparks came out of the side. This went on for 3 days then my parents made me get rid of it saying "Your going to kill us with this thing".

I REALLY WISH I STILL HAD IT! D:

I do change LEDs in my toys to blue/red/green often depending on which color I'd prefer to flash.

applied a stripped twistie tie to my gf's old video card to make it support S-Video cables (in color) (nvidia cards seem to choke on S-Video cables, go figure)

my friend who's an electrical engineer fixed a USB joystick of mine
and he, a couple other friends, and I modded his wii with yaosm (free modchip for older wiis)

i connect electrolytic capacitors in reverse in an attempt to make them explode

SUCCESS

EDIT: actually a few years ago i built an xbox1 controller to usb adapter

not like it was hard because those controllers ARE usb devices and it's pretty much wire a to wire b

also i have to shorten and resplice my tablet cable at least once a year because it turns to **** around the sharp turn it takes out of the back of the tablet

EDIT: actually back in like december i recovered my cousin's xd card from his laptop

it involved cutting the card reader open but since it was already torn up internally anyway who cares
