I have some prototype graphics that I was going to make into games... my "projects" folder is on another computer so I'll post that later.

Some kind of trippy exploration game backdrop (whats with those stray pixels in the bottom row?)

A robot, for the prototype above.

Same game, graveyard/night level

All of these are stretched to different sizes for some reason, they all should be to scale with the robot...

AAAAND finally, something I still need to make a game about:

Yes, a shark with dual uzis.

http://zzo38computer.cjb.net/games/oldgamescreen/

Let's see if you can try to guess and figure out any of these things about any of these games:
  • How old it is (some of these games are very old!)
  • How the game works, rules of game, how to play, etc
  • What should be done in the game at the given point
  • The programming language used
  • How long it took to write
  • Any other comments?
Some questions for specific games are easy while others are harder or are more deceptive. If you don't know, you can even ask and I might answer your question.

Here is a few hints (but also more questions to guess!):
  • 2 games are 2-players games
  • 1 game I have originally designed on my graphing calculator
  • 1 game uses the mouse
And descriptions of a few old games that I have no screenshots for:
  • WHETEL 2: You have to roll a dice and then guess a word in the phrase, like hangman or Wheel of Fortune but you had to guess entire words, not just letters.
  • QQX FAT: It was a text-adventure game where very few commands were implemented and the answers that the game gave to you were too terse to be of any use.
  • AREGAM: Basically you had to draw a line without touching any of the blocks that were randomly scattered around the screen.

The second and third ones are ZZT, right? And I think the seventh and eigth are, too.

Could be wrong, though.

Some of them are ZZT, but not the second, third, seventh, or eighth. If you have played ZZT, the ones that are ZZT might be more easily recognizable.

I ran it in a window only to take screenshots of it. Can you tell which ones are ZZT? Probably you can. All the screenshots were done in the same way. I push ALT+PRTSC and then used Paint to crop the part I wanted and then used ImageMagick to store the files.

I also have some old prototype betas and examples I made for myself. But they aren't all that great..... Even an interesting Mario bit, made in Mega Man X 16-bit style.

Oh my, one of my oldest fangames is just a pain to play (except for me, since I know how to get around the glitches).
Anyway, right when you start the game, a gray text box comes up! It says Super Mario 07!!!
Then, it shows a room where it explains the controls, arrow keys to move, up to jump and space to kick.
user posted image
Is that a SMW Mario stomping on an edited SMB1 Goomba with Sonic grounding? Yes it is.
When you get into Peach's Castle, you hear Bowser's voice saying, "I have the princess, yadda-yadda, moving on."
user posted image
Peach has put up Mario Wallpaper in her house. blank.gif
Okay, look, there's a door! Lets jump on it and got to the first level!! Mario moves extremely slow, and should probably stop eating so much pasta. Oh, when you land after you jump, you must let go of all the keys, or you'll go through the ground. You also run non-stop and can jump as high as needed. So, as you can see, the gameplay's VERY buggy.
So, you go through the first world, kicking, jumping and stuff. You can play the game if you want, but it's probably even worse then Yoshi Gone MFGG.
Play if you dare, and experiment with bosses.
If the game is just plain impossible for too many, I'll put how to beat bosses.
Oh, don't go in a door you've beaten, or you have to beat all the levels from that point on again.

now that this is actually possible with mmf2's layers (and conveniently shaders because i always wanted the "out of focus" layer to be blurred)

hell if i'm going to try designing levels for that ****, though

That Super Mario 07 game was incredible, keep up the good work. I have no old games to show unfortunately, but most of the games showed so far look pretty good. I wonder why they got canceled...?
