now that i think about it

this topic would probably be better as an FD subforum as opposed to one giant glob of various tutorials (call it "Articles" or "Mini Tutorials" or something)

this way everything is in its own topic where further discussion and updates easily take place, and they wouldn't clog up or get lost within the other sections (like misc discussion)

PROPOSED RULEZ/IDEARZ:

• use square brackets to enclose the relevant programs/languages/wtf ie [MMF2] or [GM7] or [INTERCAL]; to make things easier, these should precede the article title eg ([C++] - How to cause havoc with pointers, [ASM] - i didn't know my computer could catch fire, etc)... be specific unless it's a general idea, in which case use [ANY] or [GENERAL] or something
• let readers know of any prerequisites they need to complete or follow the article; for example, an MMF2 tutorial can depend on the reader using the correct build or higher, or a language update 1.x may have renamed functions compared to 1.y
• consider including materials such as source files or graphics if your article is long or complex (or even if it's not, i guess)
• consider actually submitting said materials to the main site if they're relevant, and either link to or include the article as needed
• don't use it for common sense stuff like Hello World or something you'd figure out within 5 seconds of using the language/program; stuff like this would be better integrated into at least a slightly more complex tutorial
• articles don't necessarily need to be tutorials, but could instead be reference material such as program/language quirks/workings, useful functions or algorithms, or whatever
• if possible, keep your topic updated to reflect changes in a program/language that could break your tutorial
• don't do drugs, stay in school, listen to your parents, and give me money

Isn't there already a How-To section on the main site?

it's pretty much the same thing as that topic, meaning it'd be for things that are too "easy" or "short" or "it doesn't fit" or what have you to submit

or it could be for things you are planning on submitting; in any case, it'd be far easier to update since you wouldn't have to wait for staff to change it

I don't see any problem with it. I'm sure there's a bunch of helpful "one line" code/events that could be posted. then again, FGD isn't all that active, so it'll probably be inactive aswell.

One of the things I'd like our Wiki to do is to host written tutorials about stuff.

I don't imagine we'll have a massive amount to deal with so this forum should be able to contain the floods for now. But yeah, the wiki needs a purpose other than to log our MFGG lives.

I agree with this idea!

yeah it may work better on the wiki, but i'd imagine the forums get more traffic so

btw uh if you're wanting to do this on the wiki, you're really going to have to get geshi up and running (EDIT: actually, there might be an ipb version of geshi too which would be nice)
