Well, there was always good ol' Ape Escape. HAHAHA. I was young, and it was pretty deep for a fun little speeder game.

First and only deeper game with a darker tone was FFX. I couldn't help it. Tightass was a complete ******, but the story was written too well, and it was one of my all-time favorite RPGs.
