QUOTE (Xgoff @ Apr 5 2009, 12:58 AM)
at least they aren't $3000+ like they were... a year ago?

i swear they dropped 10 times in price in the span of a month, because back in like january i checked on newegg and was like "WHAT THE **** weren't these like $3k?"

Well the only ones worth owning are Intel's. Anything with a jmicron controller isn't worth owning even if someone pays you for it.

Well it's not a 7200.* drive so that's probably a plus.

But most drives 500gb+ have a 32mb cache and are still cheaper.

It might be a RAID-optimized drive, akin to the WD R series, which doesn't necessarily mean any benefit for a standard desktop computer.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136320 500gb, 32mb cache, 5 year warranty, steller reviews (although reviews say nothing for long term reliability)

I'll pay 10 bucks and 2 years of warranty for 250 more gigs than that.

So I actually looked it up, they are indeed RAID-optimized drives. It may or may not equate to better reliability in a desktop environment.
