I've been working on this platform engine for a few days now, mainly because every engine I find doesn't have any labelled coding at all. So, I decided to make a 'user-friendly' platform engine with 100% labelled coding for beginners.

It comes with basic movements and basic enemy AI.

The controls are shift, control and the arrow keys.

It doesn't come with sprites though, just masks.

I hope you enjoy it and learn from it.

Unless that's a WIP/Engine for a game you plan to make it the future, I believe you aren't allowed to post platform engines on this page, due to the vast amount that flooded the past (or something along those lines), and the fact that most Mario platform engines are essentially the same thing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What? He's posting it so beginners can use it. I think engines are okay to post as long as they are worth posting. Plus this one doesn't have sprites, so no one can just make levels and call it a game.

THIS TOPIC IS AT THE RIGHT SPOT

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I'll just congratulate you for a minute here because really, hardly any who does these 'engines' label them with comments, which then results in no new material to them.

Keep it up!

(oh, and perhaps some screenshots would be nice)

Ther isn't much to screenshot unless you want to see some masks and a grey background. But I guess I'll post some.

Also, Soiyeruda, I didn't know here used to be flooded with engines, sorry.

Also, thanks to the people who said this was good.

That's understandable, and it's a mistake on my part that I said the first post, so I apologize.

In any case, the engine itself is pretty good.

What I'd suggest fixing is maybe the wall collisions, as the character doesn't fully collide into the wall (he's a few pixels back, but it might be subtle enough if the sprite were changed). Also, when you're in the air and start moving/were moving, you'll still continue to move despite the fact you aren't holding the move buttons. In addition, your speed goes to max almost instantly, it seems, when this happens.

Maybe you intended for the jump thing I mentioned, but it could be hard to work with. Especially when trying to pass over hard to cross gaps.

Well, the engine is quite good, i suggest you to improve the wall collision, it's not pixelperfect.

Especially an engine like this is appreciated here.
This gives beginners a hint what to do and doesn't encourage them to just take that and submit it unedited.

What is not appreciated is more engines of the "hello" type, with every possible gimmick.

I agree. Hello's engine is an entire template rather than something to work off :P with that engine all you have to do is design levels. This engine here is something people can be creative with and learn from. Exactly what an engine should be =)

Everyone who wants to say something about Hello's engine:
-> if it's positive: go to hello's engine topic.
-> if it's C+C: go to hello's engine topic.
-> if you don't like hello's engine because ??? then keep it to yourself.
Just a little warning to everyone.

Happy discussion of MIRROR'S engine.

Message boards are not a democracy.

Also nice engine Mirror, I'd say keep it up, but don't, you'd risk putting too many gimmicks in and becoming Hello.

Also congrats on making the graphics so boring that nobody would EVER want to just submit this unedited, this is some true engine making.

Thanks everyone, I'll try to fix the wall collisions. Also, the jump thing was intentional, but I might change that. Anyway I'm not planning on stuffing more stuff into this engine, I'm just planning to keep it nice and simple.
