Hi.

As requested by Guinea and Shyguy Grey, I'll be making various pieces of artwork for the CFP with intention of making the instruction manual look more visually active. This topic is for the display of said artwork. I'll be updating this thing regularly with characters, items, locations, etc.

"But Hatman? What do we contribute to this topic?!"
I'm glad you asked, Bob!

"My name is Frank..."
Shut it. Members in this topic are free to openly critique the work that's put in this topic. If Wario's too fat [plz], then I'll reopen the drawing and thin 'im up a bit. Of course, you're also free to say things like, "Wow I like this style, Hatman you're astounding, can you babysit my kids this weekend, I've got a poker game." You get the idea, I hope.

"But what if I wanted to contribute artwork to the official art topic? I can draw good!"
Hahahah, I'm sure you can Jimmy, and believe it or not, you're free to! HOWEVER, a specific condition must be met. You must mimic the style the drawings are made in as best as you can. I'll help you by instructing you on how to get started, but the rest all comes down to you!

First: I've used openCanvas 1.1, a copy of which I will provide at the end of this post.
Second: Use the following settings when making lineart. Under the pen tool:
user posted image
Set the pen pressure (top bar) all the way to 0, and set pen size to 6 pixels.
Third: When coloring, make sure you use only 1 color to shade. Only few exceptions will be allowed, like Bowser who has textured, scaly skin. It's usually done to accentuate a complex feature like Bowser's skin or Syrup's curly hair.
Finally: When you're done, post it as a png by saving your work into another program, like paint. Then on openCanvas, go to file and click on "Export Event File", so you can reopen it later if you want to work on it.

Once posted, your work will need to pass a style check, and if it mimics the style I've made for the CFP's artwork, then we'll gladly accept it.

Enough formalities, let's see what we've got down.

ooooooooooooo
Wario and Waluigi look great.

Bowser and Syrup could probably use some work here and there.
Let's see if I can get it right:
Bowser should probably not have | eyes and have a bit more body mass. The way you drew him he looks like a teen. (might also be because you drew him next to Syrup and he's way smaller than her)

Syrup looks alright, basically. Maybe not such a long face and neck.
But let's hear what everyone else has to say.

Bowser and Syrup look fantastic. The bros however, need work with their proportions. They seem overexaggerated, especially the bros hats.

Wait...did you use a tablet for this?

Mario and Luigi look great, no problems there.

Wario and Waluigi look a little over-exaggerated - the poses are too goofy, and they look kinda weird. They'd be great as a seperate picture, but for official art, they should probably look as close to the sprites as possible.

Bowser looks awesome, so he's fine. But Syrup needs some better proportions, the anatomy is a little messed up. And she probably should look a little more feminine.

So to be honest, I could only really see the Mario, Luigi, and Bowser as official art, and Wario and Waluigi could work. The only picture that could really use a lot of work is Syrup.

Hm I have to say I prefer at least rev2006's Syrup and Bowser over Hatman's.

I like Ken Martin's/rev2006's pictures more tbh (characters look more like themselves).

In terms of stature and whatnot, I prefer rev2006's art(not fond of hte lines or whatever on Mario,Luigi, and Waluigi's pants, it looks like they have wedgies), but I prefer the coloring style of Hatman.

You know, tbh, I'd like to see a combonation of the two styles. Rev's is too serious, and Hatman's is really cartoony. I'd like to see something cartoony, but still serious.

I'm not as experienced when it comes to using programs like OpenCanvas to make artwork so that explains why Hatman's lines are better. 90% of what I do is either drawings or paintings. I can still fix them up however if anybody wants.

Yeah, I think you and Hatman should try working together on these. Yours are good, but they lack the cartoony feel Mario art usually has, while Hat's has too much.

I honestly think you two could make some cool stuff if you combined oyur efforts.

I'd love to color outlines you'd provide.

EDIT: Updated OP to showcase Ken's stuff.

Those look awesome. Bowser bugs me though. He looks tilted a bit or something. I think it's his stance.

EDIT: And I think Wario's legs might be a bit too long

Bowser is tilted, and Wario's legs ARE too long.

Some minor fixes here and there.

But still awesome.

I'm not even a part of this project, but as a critic I prefer Hatman's. It has a lot more style, crazy style.

The symbol on Waluigi's hat is the wrong way though! So that can't be official art.

Nice, but I don't like your Bowser's pose tbh. Hatman's was better posewise, but yours is better in proportions.
