- Development BackStory -

I'm sure everyone who is a Golden Sun fan remembers the prank of The Solar Soothsayer being the name of the fake game that was supposed to be the third installment of the franchise.
Well, I thought the name was too good to go to waste. I sat down for hours trying to think of a good way to fit it in one of my games. As time started going by, I graduated from High School and started to move on with my life. One day I sat down to play Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on ZSNES (yes - emulator - BAD BOY) and I fell in love all over again. I had always thought of it as my favorite game of all time. And playing it again made me realize how much I loved it all over again.
And so I went on to work on a Kingdom Hearts game. Mushroom Kingdom Hearts. Using the XAS system I got pretty far. I became a lean mean ripping machine as I trudged through game after game trying to get all the sprites I needed. I ended up putting Dreamland, Mineral Town, Hyrule, Mushroom Kingdom, Green Hill Zone, and Planet Zebes under my belt before I realized that at the end of it all... I really wanted to make a sequel to Super Mario RPG.
And it wasn't just a want. It was A NEED.
And so here I am today - three weeks into development. biggrin.gif

Every character has their own abilities on the field as well as in battle. Examples include Mario can jump over obstacles or onto raised ledges while Luigi can push crates and burrow underground.

Innovative design to monster encounters. Strike foes on the field to deal the first attack in battle.

Fight foes in Fast RPG Style using a modified version of the SBS created by Enu and translated by Atoa. Adds a professional feel to the battle scene.

Interact with your environments. Push Enemy's from your path, crack them in the head with a hammer, or smash into them with Bowsers hard shell. All doing different things that will effect the battle turnout!

Your favorite characters from the Mario Universe will make appearances, as well as characters from Super Mario RPG. biggrin.gif


- Story -

The Story is set 1 year after Smithy's take over. The Chancellor (revealed to be Toadsworth) steps down and allows Princess Toadstool to rule the Mushroom Kingdom.
Making the transition to ruler is quite hard for Toadstool, you can be sure. Luigi has returned from Isle Delfino, where he was on an ambassadors mission to bring the Noki's and Pinata's to the Mushroom Kingdom to live. The Mushroom Kingdom Airport was established along with the Luigi Ferry. Despite the success of the mission he is depressed for missing out on Smithy's takeover.

Frogfucious has passed away leaving Ribbit (his student who had previously lived in Seaside Town) in charge. Mallow is ruling Nimbus land as Prince and Bowser is busy plotting in his Keep.
Things seem to be getting back to normal....

But all the while, under the earth, in the sewers that expand throughout the world The Amoeboids are busy multiplying. The Amoeboids are the blue creatures from Smithy's factory that were being massed produced. Mario and party had overlooked their importance in Smithy's overall plan.


The Amoeboids suck up anything they come in contact with and transform into Smithy's weapons. When a group of Bandit's infiltrate a deep chamber of Belome's Temple and are sucked up the Amoeboids grow more powerful and begin to find their way above ground.

As the Amoeboids expand they become Virus's. The Virus's begin to infect monsters from around the world and together they create a small army that is working together to reopen the gate to Smithy's World.

Meanwhile, A baby drifts from the Midas Falls, wearing a crown marked "Daisy". A baby with no past, or so they think.

With the help of the "Solar Soothsayer" Mario must stop Smithy's return and find Daisy's true home.

But in the darkness, lies another enemy, waiting for the right moment to set strike.

---- Demo May 30 ----- V.1.0

In order to create a stand alone demo - many events, scripts and features are not available that are in the full version. Because I went in and edited many of the rpg maker functions - and made custom scripts - it was mostly incompatible with the original rpg maker compression game disk settings.


Known Bugs and/or incompatibility issues:

- When on Load Screen, if you hit the cancel key you will get an error.
- If you try to to the 'title screen' from the main menu - you will get an error.
- Sometimes when you are Mario you cannot jump. Just switch characters with the L trigger and sometimes it fixes the problem.
- When you are Princess Peach for the first time - she is forced to leave through her secret entrance.. yet she can travel back into the Mushroom Kingdom. biggrin.gif
- Shy Guys do crazy attacks. BEWARE.
- After Vir Mirror Boss Battle - Mario is stuck with a crazy expression. JUST JUMP. It will fix it.

Its a good ways into the game. About an hour of solid game play. save files will be compatible with full version. biggrin.gif

I do have things to present I'm still in the process of adding to the post. I'm transferring data and other things from different computers. The First Post will be modified very shortly. The post as is was made with the intent of suggestions for plot and to establish a base for which I will add everything as it comes along.

I'm guessing you've had bad experiences with people using the RPG Maker? biggrin.gif

I can assure you that I am no amateur to ruby scripting and have mastered the use of the rpg maker over the years.

I will rewrite the story post as I find a better way to... explain it. lol
I can see how it would be a little confusing.
I have been coming up with this story for weeks so I have gotten used to casually throwing around Baby Daisy's existence. lol.

If you have played Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars you will notice that Daisy does not exist in their world. So it wouldn't make much sense to just THROW her in for the sake of a fan game with ALL the Mario Characters.

I DO, however, want to incorporate as many Mario Characters as I can while at the same time staying true to the original game.

For instance - Daisy. Having her introduced as a Baby seems the best course of action without saying that she is a princess from another plain.

And so the game immediately takes on the mystery of the "crowned baby". Who is she? Where did she come from? And most importantly - HOW did she get here?

Its fun to play around with different ideas and throw things into the script and mess around with it. Its like adaptation in its simplest form. I can now adapt things from the Mario Universe and put them into the Mario RPG universe which was made almost 15 years ago. Bringing contemporary elements to a classical world. Yet at the same time... it really is THE SAME WORLD.

What the hell am I saying? headslap.gif I hope that made just a little sense. lol.

Anyway - Screenshots and First post is about to be re-edited. Thanks for your patience.

I don't want to give too many details about the plot but you are very close. I can say that later on in the game - Daisy will be fully grown. So I'll leave that for you to ponder.

The game will feature an enemy besides Smithy. I'm keeping that info on the down low until I have more developed in terms of scripts and sprites.
The game will also feature remastered version of the original soundtrack that my friends and I are busy working on. As time passes we will release content on the main post so that people can download special songs, images, demo's and other goodies from the game. I now feel confident that the project will see a completion date. That date is still to be determined but the good news is that its in the future and I can see it now. Now if I can remember my (CURSE WORDS) password for my upload site, I will post my screenshots.

The game will revolve around Mario's involvement with "The Solar Soothsayer."

Ten brownie points to whoever can guess who it is. biggrin.gif

Thanks. I hope to keep this updated with my progress as well as give my resources out to anyone who really wants or needs them. I will soon make a credits section once I have it organized. A lot of original sprites came from this website and I want to give their authors the credit they deserve.
The thing that sucks is converting them all to a format I can USE. lol.
Its time consuming but totally worth it in-game. I am able to make flawless animations that add a real depth.

If anyone has any plot suggestions that has played Super Mario RPG, I am VERY open to your suggestions. I am having a blast recreating the places from the game and am looking for good sidequests ideas.

Looks pretty damn good, like the fact that you can interact with the enemies.
Some of the tiles look odd though.

Those RTP tileset looks awfully wrong when making Mario games.

Ohhh noo.
Absolutely no RTP will be found in this game.

Oh wait.. I lie.
There are barrells from the RM2K rtp. But only because they looked cartoonish.

But seriously, I absolutely HATE RTP graphics. They make me want to cry.

I ripped the water myself from Super Star Saga. It animates and moves so what you are seeing is a still shot.. and you are right, it does look kinda funky. biggrin.gif

Yes you are right. There are a few things that I will be working on to make it look less... ODD. I kinda settled for what was best at the time and went with that. Because I anticipated that I would grow eyes later on in the future, I put all of my graphics on ONE template. So that way I can change the ONE template itself without having to go back through and change all the maps. biggrin.gif I thought it was kinda nifty so I could address some of the [/I]odd[I] tile graphics.

My main focus however is on Story and Game Play. I can always beef up the graphics later. nod.gif

I will be adding new screenshots hopefully everyday until I release a demo. If there is ANYTHING at ALL you want to see put into the game... just post it here. cool2.gif
