I don't use the gamemaker sprite editor to make my sprites anyways
I use other programs

what does "actual transparency" mean

ONE of the color entries has to be a transparent color otherwise there'd have to be ****ed up **** behind the scenes to handle something like -1 or -2 as a special "color" in order to leave the other 16,777,216 colors unaffected... ct would have to use an extra byte for each pixel just to support that

the color's ignored entirely if you're using an alpha channel so it's irrelevant what you choose there

the only other way would be to have a runtime "don't use transparency" option or something which i guess is what you meant, but until that happens you could just have said alpha channel be entirely opaque... or just use 255,0,255 because that's pretty much the "standard" transparent color

well thats nice, but an easy way to get around that in the older version is just to make the image one pixel longer and then move its x origin 1 pixel right

Yeah, for example it enlarges the bounding box that is used for placing objects in GM's level editor and so the "delete-underlying" feature deletes stuff that it shouldn't delete just because it overlaps one pixel that you don't really need.
