I've been trying to debug an issue with this piece of software I've written, its been difficult to find people to test this for me.

All I really need to know is it runs for you or not and what operating system you're using. If you encounter any issues while using it, that's good too.

Make sure that you've unzipped all the files first before attempting otherwise it won't work.

It only has two requirements that I'm aware of:
  • .NET Framework 3.5
  • XNA 3.0 Runtime
So make sure you have these or it probably won't work.

I'm using Vista and I can't seem to open the program. All it shows is this when I try to open it...

I know I have .NET Framework 3.5. And I downloaded XNA 3.0 Runtime yesterday to make sure I had it.

My computer broke down and I haven't been able to fix it recently, so I haven't been able to reply.

I *think* I was able to find the issue, I believe a file was missing and so it crashed because I didn't capture the error.

I've added in some extra exception handling so it should be easier to find out where issues are coming from if it's something else.

I've re-uploaded the file if someone wouldn't mind trying it again D:

If you put the source up for download then I'd probably check it out, but I'm not in the habit of just downloading and running exes that I've never seen before.

It's pretty safe, been working on it for about 6 months, still has a long way to go before it's finished. I've been able to run it on my computer without any issues, but other people seem to encounter issues running it, so its important that I find out what's causing those issues.

Fair enough, I was just saying what a lot of people are probably thinking.

MapIt opens now but the MapIt.vshost doesn't (if it's even suppose to). Nothing happens when you click about/contents in the help menu.
How are you suppose to place the tiles?
Are the tile buttons in the picture suppose to be selectable or is there a way your suppose to activate them?

You activate them by adding a tile function, which is a specially crafted object for handling tiles. You add it by right clicking the Scene Tree (the blank white space to the left if you haven't added any objects yet) and then pick "Add Tile Function" which will add the tile function selected in the tile selector to the Scene Tree.

By default I have added one tile function, which is your basic select a tile, then click on the map to place it and whatnot you'd probably find in most tile mapping programs. the add/delete/select/move tile buttons function differently depending on which tile function you're using and also what options you've got selected.

The idea is that eventually you'll be able to create your own tile functions for specific purposes. eg. if you're building a road, it would be easier to draw a line from one point to another and have the tiles draw themselves based on where you've put those points rather than to tile it by hand. Of course you will require C#/XNA knowledge to do so.

Oh, okay.
