A zombie book. A man has been in a bomb shelter for 5 years, after a zombie breakout. The book would be more about the fictional atmosphere of the post apocalyptic world, with the main character looking for people while occasionally fighting a few surviving zombies.

See, you're trying to "borrow" ideas from other authors, don't do that.
You have to flesh out what you feel the world needs to know about this subject, setting, and time period. Once you've done that you can work on setting, characters, and main conflict.
Along with the general progression of the book of course.

I've attempted writing a couple short stories, but I'm not much of a fan of it anymore.
