Actually it's one of the five songs from the much better nes tetris that tengen made

but good guess

Technically it was Atari (i.e. the Arcade division) that made it for the arcade -Tengen (the console division) just ported it and fixed it for NES hardware obviously.

And the Arcade, Tengen and Nintendo ports all share Karinka and Troika (and silence) as songs

In Soviet Russia, Tetris plays YOU!

Anywho, happy b-day Tetris.

EDIT: I've just noticed my avatar has a Russian character. Coincidence! =P

QUOTE (M. Bison @ Jun 6 2009, 12:26 PM)
Cool! Happy birthday, Tetris. Truly one of the best puzzle videogames of all time.

Over the years, Tetris has sold over 70 million copies. True, that's over a span of countless VG consoles, but that's still mighty impressive, at least in my opinion.

not bad for something originally written to test a computer

QUOTE
On June 6, 1944, the crucial Normandy Landings that formed the spearhead of the Allied invasion of Nazi held Europe occurred. D-Day ultimately led to the victory of the Allies over the despotic Nazi regime. Now here we are on June 6, 2009 and, in its inimitable way, Google has decided to memorialize the important occasion by adding an image on its homepage depicting... the computer game Tetris.

Yes, it's far more important to Google to celebrate the anniversary of the invention of the video game Tetris than to memorialize D-Day. It just warms the heart, doesn't it?

I have to say, though, that this is no departure for Google, a firm that finds it nearly impossible to post images celebrating any American holidays or important milestones in American history. So, what we have here is just one more example of Google's essentially anti-American policies.

Happy birthday, Tetris. Thanks for bringing me this hilarious news article

The heck?
I'm sure Google must have done a D-Day banner at one point.
I know some years back was the 60th anniversary, that was pretty big.
But right now Tetris is the 25th anniversary.
