Mario Land: Minigame Mayhem, It's back

I haven't worked on this in a week or two but I HAVE restarted working on this. The story? I had a harddrive crash a while ago and lost literally years of work, all of which had to be restarted. But it's all worked out for the best because this game is back in the works.

A bit of history, this game started as MFGG Land back in 2003, a minigame compilation involving MFGG characters in an MFGG themed park, with people submitting their own minigames to add to the park. The decision was made to make it Mario-only though and I began the quest to create a Minigame compilation with more fun to it than your average Mario party game.

And thus Mario Land: Minigame Mayhem was born, a minigame compilation set in a large theme park, packed with minigames that win or lose you coins that you can spend on other minigames. It's a simple cycle but it works. I'll follow this post with pictures and a minigame list. I've made a lot of progress on this in recent times and I don't plan on stopping this time unless something really drastic gets in my way, I WILL get it done.

As always, suggest minigame ideas if you have them but I don't expect much in the way of that. I'll mainly be posting my own updates here.

Never stopped wanting to play this game. I remember seeing a gameplay video some time ago which made me become more anticipant.

Sucks about losing the work but if you're still working on it and happy then it's all good.

These are images of the most complete minigames that I have, I have a whole bunch more that've been started or have near-working engines, but need a lot of fleshing out. I might post descriptions for all these but maybe it's best for people to use their imaginations?

Alright now with every one of these topics i've posted in the past, I will use this to get ideas about other minigames or to post minigames I feel like showing. If you have any questions or comments feel free.

How many Minigames do you have currently?

Completed? About 35 or 36

I also have around 10 or so "in the works", in varying stages of completion.

Wow. This is going to be like another Mario Party? Or just one of those big bundles of Minigames where you just scroll through screens and screens of them to choose which one to play?

Here's a basic look at how it plays:



Basically you're in a giant theme park and the minigames are "stalls" at the theme park. You need to pay coins to play minigames, varying from free or 1 coin, to somewhere near 15 or 20.

When you win a minigame, you earn more coins, allowing you to go spend it somewhere else. If you lose a minigame though you generally don't win anything, so each minigame is really a gamble. There are free minigames though, as well as Toadsworth who'll give you money if you're poor.

There are also buildings that you can go into that house other minigames in the theme park. These are:

The Arcade:


This building has some of the more arcadey of the minigames, and eventually will include some remakes of classics like Donkey Kong or Frogger. It also has the majority of minigames that're high-score enabled, so you go here to get online high scores and beat others.

The Ghost House:

This building houses the more scary minigames, not sure of any other purpose for it yet other than to be somewhere to visit.

The rest of the park is a sprawling place housing a whole lot of minigames.

Looks awesome, I hope it's as fun as it looks!

I've been obsessively working on this on and off for around 6 years, and one of my biggest missions is to make the minigames FUN rather than a chore, so I always try my best to make them something people will want to come back to. With the addition of high scores for some minigames and hopefully achievements down the line I hope it'll be as fun as it looks =}

It sounds a lot like the Bomberman Land games, although not exactly. Looks pretty fun, you plan on having a demo?

Ah, so much memories coming back. I remember playing the demo when I first came to the forum. It's awesome to see that you're still working on it!

Well there won't be another demo, i'd rather people experience it all in one go.
