.. It's actually possible for regular admins to bump themselves up to root? What the hell? Isn't that kind of... insecure of IPB's system?

As far as I know, it should not be possible. but hey, welcome to a board system from 2004

Root Admin is no different from regular admin except you can't really kill the account (why would you anyway) oh and root admins get to view useless logs

BS going root pretty much solves all issues I had in this post.

Root admins have SQL read-access, and they can destroy the logs. By not having any admin in the root admins group, every admin is irrevocably accountable for what they do. Something that needed to be in place, but wasn't, for both Jas and Yoshiman's short-lived rule.

So, I've had my differences with BS, and I've expressed distrust in some of his actions, but I've always tempered that with being the first to admit that BS can and does do some good things. When he is allowed the freedom to accomplish goals, but held accountable for how he finally gets to his results, he does an amazing job.

Making himself sole Root Admin makes it shockingly easy to call bull**** on a lot of promises, and it would be simple to just call you an idiot and BS a power hungry megalomaniac. But, if I preferred the easy way of doing things I wouldn't be back here posting.

So instead I'm just going to say this. People who are already predisposed to believe BS holds a vendetta against him are going to assume this new development crushes any hope of transparency as spoken of by Guinea. The more paranoid will likely assume Guinea is just a figurehead admin, despite any good intentions. The result, especially with RII's involvement now, means that tensions are once again ratcheted back up to Trial Member levels.

To try and brush it off for whatever reasons you have make it seem like you're either being completely oblivious, a huge tool, or unconcerned with what you actually think in favor of trying to play to an admin's good side. None of which cast what you say- much less the entire situation- in any sort of favorable light.

EDIT: Man I'm clear as mud tonight. TL;DR version
  • Root Admin seems a power grab
  • Casts a pall on Guinea's inauguration
  • Rekindles flames of paranoia
  • You sound like you're brown-nosing
  • The end

well not to mention that no one's even supposed to be touching that group, which was even noted by RII in a mod forum topic, and a news topic

I don't see how BS being root admin really helps MB's point of "there should be someone above everyone else so people know who to talk to (and blame)" or however he want's to word it, as the staff list remains the same regardless if BS is a root admin or a regular one. There really isn't a list of who's in what group aside from searching the member list yourself, and not many people are going to know what root admin really means. and the staff page on the site probably wouldn't help out a forum user.

Not to mention Captain Jeff Silverss has been in the admin group as well as BS for some time now, so I really don't know what MB is getting at.

I guess he just wants one guy posting news threads or something?

have to wait for his response, of course. he might have a good reason. maybe.

OR MAYBE HE'LL COME ONLINE AND READ OUR POSTS AND DELETE MFGG AS WE KNOW IT

but yeah, wait for him. No need to rush things, chances are he'll undo it himself.

I think it's funny that BS went from "Aw, you guys have no idea how hard it is to admin a site all alone, that's why I really needed Guinea even though I was very opposed to having another admin until people like RII started giving me dirty looks" to "I'm just the victim here; let Guinea take all my glory, and I'll fade away..." to "Oh, by the way, I'm Root Admin, now" all in a few pages.

Make up your mind, BS. This sporadic behaviour hardly helps your case. I was really starting to like you again and trust you, but considering you can't make two posts in a consistent tone and manner, it's very hard to take you seriously.

People's suspicion is seriously seeming more and more warranted.

The posting style neither

It's their plans/doings that give them their powers

They all have the same goal even though sometimes its different.
But the style what makes them exciting cool2.gif
I'm joking btw

I wish I can go back 3 years from now and Join MFGG sad.gif

It's easy to look at BS as a bad guy. I mean all the stuff that's happened with the new system and maybe a bunch of the old ones and maybe a ban or two that nobody agrees with

but consider that the staff have given him the ok on everyting (either stated like forum 12 discussion or assumed like individual bans (hey, if there's an issue that a mod has you can imagine someone says something somewhere to BS, and if no one finds an issue than that's pretty much approval!). he might come up with the ideas, but it's still the staff that OK's them.

this root admin thing is really the only thing you can really attribute to him alone as apparently nobody knew anything of it- and hey I don't think he has ill intent with it, it's not like you can do much. Maybe you can theorize he deleted some logs he didn't want anyone to see or something, but come on now, it's not like many people can look at the logs to begin with- why go through the trouble?

So implicit agreements instantly absolve people in power from any responsibility.

I somehow doubt most members will agree to that logic, and some of the more fervent ones may yet invoke Godwin's Law again.
