For goodness sakes, Guinea is cool and all but Black Squirrel wasn't as bad as you're all painting him. He made mistakes like everyone but he always had this forum in mind, the fact that nobody could keep a cool head and discuss things well when he made those mistakes kinda prove that this isn't an easy place to run so ease up =}

Anyway I still say what makes a good admin and mod is the results they bring to the forum. I tell you if I see another random skin and another wacky attitude i'm gonna scream.

Wow and I do hope that the "NEW SYSTEM" mentioned below this topic is removed, particularly the trial member system.

I mean god damn, you guys. We had the incident with Yoshiman reading PMs and the incident where Jas gave ****tards admin powers, and yet none of you wanted them dead as much as you wanted Squirrel wiped from existence. Seriously? Chill out.

Aside from that... I pretty much agree with Kritter. BS wasn't as black as his name... *shot for horrible horrible pun*...Anyway, yeah, he made mistakes, but he wasn't trying to make us all his slaves or anything like that. He did what he thought was necessary to improve the forums, perhaps a little rashly at times, but always with good intentions. Besides, he wasn't the only one making decisions back there. And at the end of the day, as has been said (though I can't speak from experience), running this place probably isn't a walk in the park. I imagine even moderating MFGG is enough to give anyone a couple gray hairs.

That being said, I have complete confidence and trust in Guinea. However, at the end of the day (don't take this the wrong way Guinea), no assumptions can really be made about his performance, good or bad. It'll be the actions that speak.

Black Squirrel is a good man.

I can understand why he did what he did, it's understandable and I don't think he should be labelled as a bad guy- he's just a guy with ideas on how to make this place better (in his view) and tries new stuff.

There's nothing really wrong with that, because hey, sometimes the power gets to your head and you end up targeting not things being detrimental to a good community but things being detrimental to your idea of a good community and it can backfire and cause a lot of trouble. He's human just like most of us.

Personally, I'd put this thing above reading PMs and jas's mistake or whatever on the bad things list though because
- jas's mistake was fixed easily anyway
- yoshiman's never really hurt anyone- it was just a case of a curiosity gone a bit too far

****listing a handpicked group of members because you haven't been able to ban them for breaking the rules and alienating new members with overly complex systems is a bad thing beyond a simple mistake- but i'll forgive anyway. to err is human, to forgive divine

but yeah, yoshiman, bs, and jas are all cool people, not really bad people (*maybe* bad admins- but I won't push that because they do a lot of good that a lot of people forget when they look at the bad) just ones doing the kind of mistakes we do all the time- mistakes amplify when they can affect a big community like this one. MFGG is a lot larger than a lot of us realize and you really have to be careful with what you do around here.

Informing the members is a good start- even with a larger staff team you'll never be able to see every side of an issue (especially if everyone looking at the new plans is staff- much harder to see things from a member's point of view!) and hopefully big mistakes like these will be minimal in the future. but they're inevitable regardless.

I don't like a lot of things Black Squirrel has done. But I haven't exactly felt any need to wrest control from him so he's not evil or anything.

I'm happy to see Guinea as a new face at the top of the totem pole. I like his principle of open discussion. I don't really care if members actually get a say in the end, but let them sound off for a bit.

Congrats Guinea, hope you do well with your position.

Ultimately, the content is about 95% up to the non-staff users so I dunno but I feel it's pretty fair for them to have a knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes and be able to opinionate openly on it (what this translates to is 'never insta-lock news topics) because, like it's been said, big surprises never please big numbers.

Either way, Guinea Admin is fab. SUPER-congrats bud!!

One of the first things I was going to suggest when BS announced his new system was open-discussion, but then I did a bit of a double-take and saw the other side which I can also understand. Problem with open discussion is some people are always gonna complain and if that happens then chances are not as many big ideas would ever be put into practice.

Yeah, while BS may've made mistakes, people make them. If I remember most of the forum (including me, and I still support him) seemed all too thrilled to see him take the job in the first place. Some decisions later it's like he accidentally nuked Russia or something.

But that's not what this topic is about. Happy for you Guinea. Best of luck in the new job.

anyway I've been on MFGG every day without fail for the last two years (though there's been days I haven't posted). It's not healthy and it leads to bad decisions. I need a break yo


though it's difficult to make bad decisions on the main site because even if you accept something that shouldn't be up there someone will be happy


plus it was pretty much guranteed I would mess up seeing as bigger names like ShadowMan and Yoshiman ended up resigning due to the stresses and shizzle and in many ways they were better admins than me

I don't even mind people shooting me down, I just hate having to wake up to massive topics I need to clean - at least tell it to my face while I'm online instead of ruining my day
