Meet the 2nd Admin, Topic title change to avoid confusion ;)

I don't like this. All of the first post is an appeal to (non-existing for most!) nostalgia for MFGG 5 years ago. MFGG 5 years ago wasn't that great - it may be the past, but MFGG has grown far better than MFGG in 2004. This can be roughly translated to how Nintendo keeps bringing back SMB 1-1 nostalgia when the original was great, but Mario has grown further than that.

I don't think there ever was Black Squirrel mistakes. There were changes that were less popular and blown out as disasters by certain members. Now you're trying to 'replace' Black Squirrel saying you won't make these mistakes and will be Black Squirrel's guardian angel. But in reality, nothing has changed.

These 'changes' only appear to be Black Squirrel tired of getting hate hate hate from certain members but never realize that that is one thing you will need to get used to. Now that his career isn't new and exciting anymore, members will naturally question if he's actually doing a good job. I have yet to meet one that throughout believes Black Squirrel is a horrible admin.
Not much needs to be done to moderate a board - in fact, you could probably get by just fine by doing nothing at all (except when a ban needs to be thrown once in a while). You can't please everyone. Despite what you say, there will always be some who disagrees. The best thing is probably not speaking at all (or rarely!).

Entirely removing the requirements for entering the CCC is just a bad attempt at winning the memberbase's hearts while your adminship is new and exciting. When that fades out, it'll end up stabbing your back. There was a reason it was added in its day and age.

If he was trying to replace BS would BS's member type be "Root Admin" and Guinea's be "Admin?"

I can imagine from now on, there will be a whole lot of Guinea speaking, and a whole lot of Black Squirrel silence - but most of it will be Black Squirrels words anyway.

Now hang on MB, where in the world did Guinea say he was trying to replace BS? If you read the first post from the beginning, he never said that, nor did he condemn BS.

obviously sarcasm but the message is still that Black Squirrel is no more alone on the field

translates to "it was bad before but now that I am here it will be good"

"No graphs, no statistics."
Black Squirrel loves graphs and statistics. Why are they now gone...?

etc.

I won't go into details but the general message of Guinea's post is clear. Unintentionally, maybe.

I'm not saying this means that what I'm saying is definitely true etc. but I am pretty certain my predictions above will be magically fullfilled

Hold the phone MB! The reason why Guinea was admin'd was probably, because BS got tired of doing the admining all by himself.

If you had the power, wouldn't you get someone do the dirty work for you?

isn't that what I said?

I am pretty sure BS got tired of administering all by himself because oh, he's the only one people can complain to.

regardless of the intentions, we'll see more of Guinea and undoubtedly less of BS on the admin front.



but really stop trying to play Phoenix Wright on me because it is p. annoying. They are predictions (and complaints). Black Squirrel has no real response to them so I'm going to assume I am digging in some truths.

Not really sure where you're coming from MB.

BS should never have been left standing as the only "real" admin. That alone breeds discontent and just makes his job harder. But it would be foolish to put Guinea in his place as the only admin because then you have the same problem.

The only major thing I see right now is a reversal of BS's policy of secrecy (springing major changes without much hint or warning), and allowing open discussion of said issues. Maybe it increases drama, maybe it doesn't, but you've got your principles and I've got mine.

I didn't have any problem with Black Squirrel, personally, I thought all of the claims people were making were incredibly overblown


But that doesn't mean Guinea won't be a great admin

It doesn't matter who does the job. What matters is how well the job is done.

If I were ever to "leave" I'd promote another person up to give Guinea some company. It would be desperately unfair to shove all the backlash of stuff I've done wrong in his face.

but it's definitely your way out of the 'errors' you've made. Guinea is a new person without any errors attached to his innocent self. Chances are you will sneak a note to him when important stuff needs to be announced because he is more credible because he has made no 'errors'.

but these errors are just overblown so why you are doing all this is beyond me

it's good to have another admin to not only have a second opinion and viewing your decisions objectively so it's not made in a rush and without thinking it through, but just to help share the load of work

BS already had the mod team - as he stated in several news topics earlier this year.

but eh, it's better than locked topics and then 50 threads overnight.

the real big issue with being head admin or sole admin or whatever you want to call it is you become MFGG's scapegoat. BS's stuff is really all the staff's fault because (we've been told) more or less the whole staff or most of them at least gives the OK.

he had the mod team, and look, the team is still the same. now the blame will be split maybe

the whole point I've been making for a good couple of months in forum 12 and the like is that global mods should be out there saying and doing things too

MFGG really needs to scrap this idea that it goes

Admins -> Mods -> Members

because it's really more like this

Admins & Mods -> Members

A global mod should really be just as respected as an admin and people should not be afraid to take issues up with them too, unless it's something that an admin CP is needed for (name changes, member group changes etc.). I'd love them to beat me to news topics and the like. SP did a lot of work when he had some power and he never got to admin.

My vote counts for one just like... Rage and just like Char. One of the problems you'll often find is that there aren't many votes in total and I can't fix that without hiring other people (and since we seem to be on the ball as far as the actual moderation goes, it may or may not be necessary)

but with only one bloke in the admin CP on a regular basis that means I'm responsible for all adminy stuff, which is alright as long as people understand I'm not the only person in charge, but for some reason they won't understand that.
